An Oak Park man shot himself to death Sunday after shooting someone else multiple times in Matteson, police said.
Matteson police responded to the 3800 block of Old Plank Trail about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a person shot, police said in a statement.
The victim, whose age was not immediately known, told police he was approached by a man on the road and was shot multiple times, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputy Police Chief Robert Debeikis said the assailant knocked the victim off his bicycle and then began shooting at him.
Officers later found a man about four miles away, at the intersection of 216th Street and Charleston Road, police said. Marcellus M. Jamison, 34, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest and was later identified as the shooter, authorities said.
Jamison, of the 800 block of South Oak Park Road in Oak Park, was taken to St. James Hospital and Health Centers—Olympia Fields, where he was pronounced dead at 5:13 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said. His death was ruled a suicide.
Matteson police said they are still investigating the incident.
