Evergreen Park man charged in fatal Southwest Side shooting

An Evergreen Park man has been charged with murder in connection with a Southwest Side homicide during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Richard Magnan, 35, was charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in a Walgreens parking lot early July 5.

Joel Bentley, 30, of the 5000 block of South Keating Avenue, was shot about 1 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Austin Avenue, Chicago, according to police and Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 5:46 a.m.

Magnan is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
