Updated: August 14, 2014 6:36AM

A Chicago man was killed and two others hurt in a four-vehicle crash that temporarily closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Hazel Crest on Friday afternoon, Illinois State Police said.

All lanes had reopened by 4:30 p.m., state police said.

Walter Blockmon, 50, of the 8200 block of South Evans Avenue, was pronounced dead at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest at 2:22 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Police reported that the crash happened about 1:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Kedzie Avenue, when a Toyota sport utility vehicle rear-ended a Dodge car, causing a chain-reaction collision that also involved a Pontiac and a Hyundai sedan.

Blockmon was driving the Dodge, and the drivers of the Toyota and Hyundai were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said, adding that the driver and a passenger in the Pontiac were not hurt.

Traffic was diverted onto I-57 while the eastbound lanes of I-80 were closed.
