Tinley Park teen dies of heart disease, complications from near-drowning

A 13-year-old Tinley Park girl who nearly drowned in a Crestwood pool died Sunday of complications from the incident and congenital cardiovascular disease, an autopsy found Tuesday.

Elissa Adams, of the 7700 block of West 162nd Street, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 1:18 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Her death was ruled an accident.

The near-drowning occurred in the 5300 block of West 138th Street in Crestwood, according to the medical examiner’s office. It wasn’t clear when the incident occurred. A Crestwood Fire Department official declined to provide further information.

Visitation for Elissa is from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Vandenberg Funeral Home, 17248 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park, according to the funeral home’s website. A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Church, 17500 S. 84th Ave., Tinley Park, it said.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Ronald McDonald House “In Memory of Elissa” would be appreciated, according to the funeral home’s website.
