Orland Park’s annual festival showcasing local restaurants returns this weekend.

The Taste of Orland Park is scheduled for Friday through Sunday at the Orland Park Village Center, 14700 S. Ravinia Ave.

The event combines culinary treats from Orland Park restaurants with live music and fun activities.

Foodies will be able to buy samples from nearly 20 Orland Park restaurants that will set up booths at the fest. New to the Taste’s food scene this year are Q Restaurant, which serves Asian fusion fare; and Granite City Food & Brewery.

A highlight among returnees is Sunday night’s show, featuring American English. The Beatles cover band is a Chicago-area favorite and is expected to draw a big crowd.

“People look forward to it and come from all over the place to see them,” village spokesman Joe La Margo said.

The Taste of Orland Park drew more than 35,000 people last year. Now in its 11th year, it is one of the village’s biggest annual events.

Another feature, Orland Park’s Got Talent, is an amateur competition that pits talented local performers against each other. Tryouts were held on July 21, La Margo said.

“A panel of volunteer judges narrowed it down to these finalists,” he said. “They’ll perform live to a group of people.”

Those watching the competition, which runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, can vote for their favorite finalists using their phones, La Margo said. The winner is based on 11 criteria weighed by four judges and from the public voting.

Children likely will get a kick out of Kids Day, which is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday inside the John Humphrey Sports Complex. Teens might want to check out the Teen Battle of the Bands on Saturday night. For the adult crowd, the schedule for the main stage is full of local bands playing all weekend.

There also will be a car show starting at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Humphrey Complex.

The Taste of Orland Park will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
