Traverso’s restaurant in Orland Park will mark 40 years in business with a celebration Monday and Tuesday, according to a news release from its owners.

There will be live music on the patio, plenty of surprises, food and stories, the release said.

“We have many wonderful memories here over the years, and we look forward to celebrating with friends old and new,” George Traverso said in the release.

The restaurant, which says on its website that it “has been serving the most delicious Italian food in the south suburbs” for years, is at 15601 S. Harlem Ave.

The Traversos remember moving into the location in the summer of 1974, when Orland Park was a “growing village of 9,000, with mostly farmland on the west side of the village. Harlem Avenue was a two-lane road with few stoplights and even fewer corporate chain restaurants. And Orland Square Mall was a mere design on an architect’s drafting table,” the release said.

The family-friendly restaurant featured the same homemade pastas and award-winning pizza that became famous at its other locations on the South Side of Chicago, the release said.

“As Orland has grown, we’ve grown with it,” John Traverso said.

The facility over the years has boasted celebrities and hosted engagement and anniversary celebrations and added a second dining room, a large parking lot and a 100-seat outdoor patio, the first in Orland Park, according to the release.

Traverso’s opens at 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and at noon Sundays. For more information, call (708) 532-2220.
