State child welfare officials are investigating allegations of neglect against the mother of a 4-month-old girl south suburban girl who died at a hospital Saturday.
Amaya Williams of the 12800 block of Lincoln Street in Blue Island was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, where she died at 5:43 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy Sunday was inconclusive, with results pending additional studies, the medical examiner’s office said.
The Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect against the girl’s mother, spokeswoman Karen Hawkins said.
The agency has had no prior contact with the family, and one sibling has been placed with relatives under a DCFS-monitored safety plan, Hawkins said.
Blue Island police could not be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
