Metra Heritage Corridor train hits person in Joliet

JOLIET — A person was struck by a Metra train at Joliet’s Union Station Wednesday morning, causing delays on the Rock Island District and Heritage Corridor lines.

The person was hit by Heritage Corridor train No. 918, which was scheduled to leave the Joliet station at 7:05 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train, the last inbound Heritage Corridor train of the morning, was operating about 75 to 80 minutes behind schedule, according to Metra’s website.

The person was taken to a hospital but no information was about his or her condition was immediately known, Miller said. Joliet police did not immediately return a call for comment.

Rock Island District train No. 414, which was scheduled to leave Joliet at 7:17 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 8:24 a.m., is delayed by 10 to 15 minutes, Miller said.
