Sister Cities Festival: Chicago Heights will host its third annual Sister Cities Festival from Friday through Sunday at the intersection of 10th Street and Dixie Highway. Many of the activities will introduce attendees to popular traditions in Chicago Heights’ four sister cities: Wadowice, Poland; Asuogyaman District, Ghana, West Africa; Cedral, San Luis Potosi, Mexico; and San Benedetto del Tronto, Marche, Italy. There will be informative displays and free children’s crafts, plus rides, games and food from local vendors. The festivities begin with a carnival from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday. The rest of the festival officially kicks off Saturday, when it runs from noon to 11 p.m. with performances featuring Bloom High School talent, cultural dance groups and an entertainment lineup that includes Kampfire Kowboys, BBI and Shining Star. From noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, the festival will feature Chicago Heights School District 170 talent, an African choir, the Grammy award-winning band Los Tex Maniacs, and freestyle artist MC Magic. There also will be a car park Saturday and a car show Sunday.
