Can’t drive 55? The posted speed limit for cars was increased Thursday to 65 mph on Veterans Memorial Tollway between Interstates 80 and 55, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority announced.
New signs were expected to be posted along the stretch of Interstate 355 by noon Thursday.
“This speed limit increase will help our customers reach their destinations faster, ultimately saving them time spent on the road,” tollway director Kristi Lafleur said in the announcement.
The speed limit for trucks remains 55 mph, the tollway said.
The increase on Veterans Memorial matches the limit already in place on I-80 where the two tollways meet.
“Drivers should obey the new posted speed limit as District 15 will be enforcing the 65 mph speed limit,” Illinois State Police Cmdr. John Jesernik said.
The speed limit for cars and trucks throughout most of the tollway system is 55 mph.
