Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is back in his home in the Ravenswood neighborhood and he took the Chicago Transit Authority’s Brown Line to work Tuesday morning.
“I have the good fortune of being home,” Emanuel said. “After I worked out this morning, I had breakfast with my son, most importantly.”
After returning to Chicago from Washington, D.C., Emanuel had to spend nearly a year in an apartment on the Northwest Side because his tenants refused to move out of his house early. The husband, Rob Halpin, even filed to run against Emanuel for mayor at one point.
The Halpins moved out in June. Emanuel joked about giving the house a thorough cleaning.
Emanuel said he hopes Gov. Pat Quinn signs a bill allowing a casino to open in Chicago because that will bring in tax revenue to pay for Chicago Transit Authority improvements. Quinn has said he already signed a spending bill that will bring more money to the CTA, but Emanuel said Tuesday it’s not enough.
