A Chicago man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to drunken driving when he plowed into a vehicle outside a Markham roller rink in 2008, killing a 28-year-old man.

Marlon Dampier, 24, admitted to being drunk when he crashed into another car in the parking lot of the Markham Roller Rink, 16630 Dixie Highway, on Sept. 27, 2008, Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said. Dampier’s blood-alcohol level was .157, nearly twice the legal limit, at the time of the accident, she said.

The force of the collision caused the other car to roll over, injuring a passenger, Jonathan Fultz, who later died from his injuries, and three others in the car suffered severe injuries, prosecutors said.

Dampier tried to flee after the crash, but a witness detained him until police could arrive, according to court records.
