Poll: Decriminalizing marijuana

A few Chicago aldermen and a Cook County commissioner are calling for the city and county to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana.
The move would allow officers to issue a $200 ticket to someone carrying 10 grams or less of marijuana rather than arresting them on a misdemeanor. It’s similar to a county ordinance that calls for ticketing those found with small amounts of marijuana in the forest preserves, unincorporated Cook County and areas where the sheriff’s department has primary policing duties.
