A 27-year-old man was in critical condition Friday after crashing into an auto repair shop in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood community, police said.
The man lost control of his car and crashed into Mount Greenwood Auto Supply & Repair, 10319 S. Kedzie Ave., about 1:20 a.m. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Chicago police officer Ron Gaines said.
No one else was in the car, a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and the crash is under investigation, Gaines said. It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
Despite the crash that caused heavy damage to the waiting area of the car repair shop, it was business as usual Friday, owner Alfredo Esparza said.
“We’re still working on cars. A couple appointments came in today. The shop is fine. No problems there,” Esparza said. “There was nobody here when it happened, thank God.”
Esparza, 38, of Alsip, said he opened the shop four months ago.
Police had no further information about the crash and had not identified the driver as of Friday evening.
