Monee man gets 3 1/2 years for molesting 6-year-old girl

A Will County judge gave a 61-year-old Monee man 3 1/2 years in prison Wednesday for molesting a 6-year-old girl police said saw him as a “trusted family friend.”
Alberto Garcia Jr. pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse before Judge Edward Burmila, but he offered no statement when given an opportunity to make one.
“Mr. Garcia, your conduct is not only disgusting, it’s loathsome,” Burmila said.
Police said Garcia picked up his victim June 26 on the pretense that he was taking her to a store. Instead, police said Garcia took the girl to his home in the 6200 block of West Monee-Manhattan Road where he molested her. The girl’s family called police that night after Garcia brought her home.
Garcia, who appeared in the courtroom in a wheelchair, faced as many as seven years in prison. His attorney said Garcia has two daughters and worked as a landscaper.
