Domestic violence awareness advocate hosts book party Friday in Burbank

Updated: February 14, 2012 8:12AM

A Calumet City woman who has written a book aimed at preventing domestic violence will host a combination publishing party and memorial service at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at Crystal Light Banquets, 8400 S. Cicero Ave. in Burbank.

Latoria Brown’s book, “Fed Up or Cover Up,” comes three years after her cousin Latonya McClain and her husband Gregory were found dead in what police at the time called a murder-suicide on Jan. 13, 2009, in Dolton.

Brown, who is raising her cousin’s five children in addition to two of her own, said she wrote the book “hoping to help and encourage others that may be a victim to leave the situation.”

She said she also is working to start an organization to help women become “all that God has called them to be.”

Tickets for the party/service are $20. The book is for sale at publishamerica.com.
