Voters asked approval for lots in March election

Updated: February 14, 2012 10:20AM

From 911 center fee increases to culling deer, Southland voters will have a lot to consider when voting in March.

All petitions for ballot items were due to Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots and Cook County Clerk David Orr on Thursday.

Voters in more than 30 communities will be asked join an electric aggregation program, which allows municipalities to transfer residential and small-business electricity accounts to alternative electric suppliers to save money.

By bundling such accounts, towns can seek lower rates for power through the open market.

Residents in Bedford Park, Bridgeview, Chicago Heights, Chicago Ridge, Crete, Dolton, Evergreen Park, Flossmoor, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Lemont, Lockport, Matteson, Midlothian, Mokena, Monee, Oak Forest, Olympia Fields, Orland Hills, Orland Park, Palos Hills, Palos Park, Park Forest, Peotone, Richton Park, South Chicago Heights, South Holland, Thornton and Tinley Park all will be considering the measure.

Voters in Matteson, Richton Park, Park Forest, and Olympia Fields will be asked to approve monthly fee increases to benefit SouthCom Dispatch, which fields 911 calls for those municipalities. All fee raises would be added to the phone bills of land-line users.

Matteson voters will be asked to approve a monthly fee increase from 80 cents to $2.75. Richton Park voters will be asked to approve a monthly fee increase from 80 cents to $3.25. Park Forest voters will be asked to approve a monthly fee increase from $1.25 to $5. Olympia Fields voters will be asked to approve a monthly fee increase from $1.25 to $6.95.

In Homer Glen, residents will vote on whether they think the Will County Forest Preserve District should continue its deer culling program.

The village board approved holding the advisory referendum in March after residents living near the Messenger Woods and Messenger Marsh preserves complained about this winter’s planned deer kill.

Regardless of the outcome, the Will County Forest Preserve District Board gets final say on deer management activities on district property.
