SPRINGFIELD — Illinois state Sen. Ed Maloney has been selected as treasurer of the Midwest Higher Education Compact.
The group works to improve college education through cooperation and sharing resources among a dozen Midwestern states.
The Southwest Side Democrat is chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee and is a former school administrator and teacher.
Maloney previously was state commissioner with the compact. He said it provided information for Illinois’ state law establishing performance-based funding for higher education.
The group serves Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Each state has five members on the governing body made up of legislators, higher education leaders and representatives of governors.
