Chicago man facing charges for soliciting Crete officer posing as child

A Chicago man is facing criminal charges after agreeing to meet and have sex with a 14-year-old girl who really was a Crete police officer, authorities said.

Jesus C. Martinez, 41, 3636 W. 70th St., was charged Friday with traveling within the state with the intent of having sex with a child, indecent solicitation of a child and unlawful grooming, court records show. His bail was set at $50,000 at the Will County Courthouse, and his next court date is set for Feb. 3.

Chuck Pelkie, a spokesman for the Will County state’s attorney’s office, said Martinez was talking to who he thought was a 14-year-old girl from Dec. 29 to Jan. 12. He was arrested after agreeing to meet with her Jan. 12.
