A Will County judge will not let a Frankfort teenager with connections in the music industry go to the Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday, more than two months after he pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
Prosecutors said Raihan Sayeed ran a stop sign at Townline and Francis roads in Mokena in May 2009, injuring a Downers Grove couple when he hit their 2002 Ford.
Sayeed, 19, originally faced two felony counts of aggravated reckless driving, but court records show those charges were dropped in November when he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to two years on probation.
That means he can’t travel out of Illinois without Circuit Court Judge Sarah Jones’ permission. On Monday, she told him he could travel if necessary for medical school interviews but could not attend the Grammies show Sunday night in Los Angeles.
Sayeed already has been in trouble for traveling out of state for a celebrity party. Prosecutors successfully sought a bail increase in November 2010 after they found several photos on Facebook of Sayeed with various celebrities at a Miami homecoming party for rapper Lil Wayne, who had just been released from prison. Sayeed is affiliated with Lil Wayne’s company, Young Money/Cash Money Records, according to prosecutors.
