Driver hurt in possible road-rage shooting near Lemont

Updated: February 15, 2012 5:29AM

A driver was shot while sitting in his car in Lemont Monday morning after apparently pulling over to apologize to a driver he cut off.

The victim told police the incident began about 10:30 a.m. in an unincorporated area of Lemont when he accidentally cut off a silver or grey pickup truck on 107th Street approaching 104th Avenue, Cook County Sheriff’s office spokesman Frank Bilecki said.

The victim said he had stopped his black Buick LaCrosse on the side of the road to apologize and was still sitting in his car when the driver of the pickup truck walked over and shot him in the abdomen, Bilecki said.

The driver, 58, was taken to an area hospital where he continues to recover early Tuesday, Bilecki said. He is currently listed in “stable” condition.

The gunman fled, and the victim had no further description of the shooter or his vehicle, Bilecki said.

Cook County Sheriff’s police are treating the shooting as a possible road-rage incident, Bilecki said.

Anyone who has information on the incident or may have seen the vehicles involved is asked to call the sheriff’s police investigations unit at (708) 865-4895.
