A New Lenox man was charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver after a traffic stop Tuesday, police said.
Lawrence Hartman, 32, of the 200 block of Woodlawn Road, was stopped at 1 p.m. for texting while driving in a construction zone, New Lenox police said.
During the stop, police saw a small handgun in the car, which turned out to be a toy, police said.
After Hartman gave police permission to search his vehicle, investigators found about 2.5 grams of heroin and two switchblades.
Police also received permission to search Hartman’s residence and found numerous prescriptions for medication that he was not authorized to possess, police said.
He was transported to the hospital for a pre-existing medical condition, police said. Upon his release, he was to be charged with one count of possession of heroin with intent to deliver and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, police said.
