Suspected bank robber found slain in Joliet

JOLIET — A suspected bank robber was found shot to death in his brother’s house Wednesday afternoon.
Glenn A. Rodgers, 43, had been living at 1301 Boston Ave. since bonding out of federal custody two weeks ago, Police Chief Mike Trafton said.
“His brother went to work in the early morning and returned home around 4 p.m.,” Trafton said. According to reports, Rodgers was shot multiple times and rigor mortis had set in before his body was discovered.
“This was not a random attack. There are no signs of forced entry (or that) this was a burglary or robbery,” Trafton said.
At 10:15 a.m. June 11, a man wearing glasses, a white T-shirt and green and black baseball cap passed a note to a teller at TCF Bank, 7122 W. 40th St. in Stickney. The robber implied he was armed, took cash and left. No one was injured and surveillance photos of the suspect were distributed by the FBI.
At 12:45 p.m. July 27, a similar crime occurred at the TCF branch at 2164 N. Bloomingdale Road in Glendale Heights. Though clean-shaven and wearing an orange Chicago Bears ballcap, the FBI believes Rodgers committed both robberies.
More surveillance photos were obtained and Rodgers was indicted Aug. 13 on one count of bank robbery in U.S. District Court in Chicago. That indictment was unsealed two days later when he was arrested by the FBI at his residence, 6048 W. Pershing Road in Cicero.
Rodgers appeared in court later that day and was released on bond.
