JOLIET — An 18-year-old man told police another Joliet Junior College student tried to rob him at gunpoint early Thursday.
The attempted mugging occurred at 2:42 a.m. at the Centennial Commons campus housing facility, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.
“The victim had left a party and was walking back to his apartment when he was approached by three men, two of whom he recognized,” Roechner said.
One of them was alleged to be Jordan E. Myers, 18, who also resides in Centennial Commons.
“As the victim approached his door, they closed in from behind and Myers pointed a handgun at his chest and began going through his pockets,” Roechner said.
The victim reportedly pushed Myers away and the bandits fled when his roommate opened the door after hearing the commotion.
Police were called and the victim reportedly identified Myers from a photo lineup.
“Investigators found witnesses who have seen Myers armed with a handgun in the past,” Roechner added.
Officers were allowed to search several units but did not find a gun. Myers was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated assault.
