Lawsuit filed in fatal crash

Updated: March 2, 2013 6:43AM

The son of a Tinley Park woman killed in a Dec. 2 crash in the village is suing the allegedly drunken driver who hit her.

Kevin P. Santiago, 33, of the 8800 block of 170th Street in Orland Hills, was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated drunken driving after the early morning crash at 183rd Street and 80th Avenue.

Paramedics took Lubna Firadusi, 50, of the 16300 block of 66th Avenue in Tinley Park, to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died about six hours later, according to authorities.

Firadusi’s son, Sham Firadusi, claims that his mother had the green light when she drove a 2003 Chrysler Sebring east into the intersection that night, according to the wrongful death lawsuit filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court.

The suit, which seeks an unspecified amount in damages, alleges that Santiago ran a red light while southbound in a 2000 Jeep Wrangler and collided with her car.

Santiago was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured vehicle and running a red light.
