Accused employee leaves District 206

A Bloom Township High School District 206 faculty member, who was investigated for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student, no longer works in the district.
In February, the SouthtownStar reported that a parent came forward and told district administrators about the alleged relationship. District officials previously said that there was no sex involved in the relationship with the student.
District 206 attorney Michael DeBartolo refused to release information about the investigation or say whether the employee was fired or resigned. He said that the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services had investigated the incident. A DCFS spokesman declined comment.
“Sexual relations are not the only relationships that are inappropriate enough for someone to lose their job either by termination or resignation,” DeBartolo said. “There are many forms of inappropriate relationships.”
He refused to identify the ousted employee, claiming that he didn’t want to violate privacy laws.
District 206 Supt. Lennell Navarre declined to comment, saying that DeBartolo spoke for him.
