Political (elected or significant appointment) experience:
I have not been elected or appointed to a political office in the past. I
have served as a board member for Chicago Scholars for the past 10 years
(ChicagoScholars.org)
In your view, what are the two most important issues facing your
constituents? How would you address those issues?
1. Potential reduced funding for programming due to the state¹s budget
crisis
2. Reduction off property tax revenue to fund schools due to
foreclosures and reduced market values
I would address both issues by helping the district continue to maintain a
strong financial position so that it will not have to cut quality
programming or eliminate good teachers and administrators. I believe my
skill set as a banker will be helpful in budgeting and deciding how to raise
capital, if necessary, to support the district.
Please explain something significant you would like to accomplish within the
next two years if you are elected to the office which you aspire.
I would like to approve programming that will help all students be more
competitive globally in math, science and technology. As a nation we
currently lag other countries in this area however our children will have to
compete globally for jobs in engineering, science and technology.
Please explain how you believe the office you¹re seeking can help in
creating local jobs.
Middle class households with disposable income are attracted to communities
with strong schools. As a result the community receives additional property
tax payers and consumers of goods and services. This usually results in
increase revenue and job growth for local businesses. In addition the
community becomes more attractive to new businesses that can provide
employment.
Do you believe the current way Illinois pays for education is working? If
so, why? If not, why not? What would you change?
Would you make any changes to the budget of the governing unit to which you
are seeking elected office? If so, what?
The current budget is balanced and appears to support the needs of the
district. Based on what has been disclosed publicly, I would not make
changes. However, I would like to make sure that there is a justification
based on market comparables for key expenditures such as administrative
salaries.
