Jordan Sims, a lifelong resident of Chicago’s Beverly/Morgan Park area, has announced his candidacy for Congress in Illinois’ 1st Congressional District.
The recently redrawn district includes part of Chicago’s South Side, Evergreen Park, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Mokena, Manhattan and other towns.
“I am running because in a time of economic uncertainty and absurd legislative scuffles, we need to restore faith in America and in ourselves,” Jordan said.
“While playing with our emotions and livelihoods, Washington has failed to address the needs of the people — the need for a job, a decent education, a sound retirement, and the opportunity to succeed. The list is endless,” he said.
Sims is a product of Chicago Public Schools, and a graduate of Duke University, with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He has been part of two campaigns for national office and serves as a political commentator for a local online newspaper.
U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Chicago) is the district’s current representative.
