Thank you, WTTW-TV (Channel 11), for the wonderful “Peace Through Music” concert honoring Pope John Paul II. It was two hours of absolute pleasure.
Three cheers to the cast and crew of the musical “Grease” at Oak Lawn Community High School. You guys rocked the house and made my 9-year-old daughter’s night magical. Thank you.
Now is the time to get rid of these dinosaurs. There is no excuse. Vote these bums out of office.
I don’t want to give Chicago any more ideas for new taxes. I keep looking for them to collect taxes from the dead by taxing funerals.
It appears that U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch and New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann are all joined at the hip and subscribe to the self-serving public-service principle of “what’s in it for me?”
Why are we still involved in Afghanistan? I think many of the people there are living in 500 B.C., and they seem to be happy to be there. I feel sorry for the women of Afghanistan. I believe the women are treated no better than cattle. Afghan insiders are apparently killing our people. We need to leave Afghanistan now and leave these people to themselves.
Please don’t think the pop, chips or whatever else it is you think are luxury items in a grocery cart are paid for by the taxpayers. They are not. I get $12 on my Link card. Do you think $12 pays for a whole cart full of groceries? No, I have to pay for the rest of the groceries that are in there.
Contentious people just want to stir up muddy waters. I suggest you read the Bible and ask God what he wants you to know. I think you’ll find out that God himself tells us he wrote the Bible. Maybe you’ll glean some of the other important teachings along the way.

With early voting, many registered voters have already cast their ballots for their political candidates. To those who are still pondering what choices to make, your vote is most critical. With a margin in some states of 5 percent between the presidential candidates, your vote can be the deciding one. The newly elected president and Congress will have the young military men and women in the palm of their hands. We hope all decisions will be well-thought-out. Do not waver. Exercise your right to vote. It is paramount in this election.

President Obama’s key word is “forward.” He will never acknowledge that we are in such a black hole with the economy and jobs. We will never be able to go forward if he gets another four years. We will never be able to dig out of the hole he has put us in.
I am a Chicago sports fan. I am happy when the Chicago White Sox are doing well, although I follow the Chicago Cubs more. I don’t understand the empty seats at U.S. Cellular Field. White Sox fans seem more focused on the Cubs’ bad season. The Cubs fans don’t down the White Sox when they’re in a slump. What is wrong with this picture?
To say a union member cannot be dismissed is a misstatement. I was a union steward for 20 years. I saw people dismissed for cause. The employer has to be able to document the cause or the reason. The unions cannot protect someone who does not do their job. The people who say they can are wrong. They have witnessed someone who was too lazy to do their job to document wrongdoing of a union employee.
I think we should get something going here and put it to public opinion on who we like better on the TV show “Windy City Live.” Anyone is better than co-host Val Warner. Some suggested Lauren Jiggetts or Cheryl Burton. I’d go with Daniella Guzman.
Bob from Chicago
In many races there is only a representative from one of the two political parties. I’m really tired of not having a choice in my elections. The gerrymandering of the districts is bad enough, but only having one candidate makes voting even worse.
Demi Lovato made a disgrace out of herself attempting to sing the national anthem. That is our treasured song of the United States of America. If you don’t know how to sing it then leave it alone.

With a hurricane on the way, New York’s Lower Manhattan area was told to evacuate. About 375,000 people were ordered to evacuate. Are you paying attention, New Orleans?
Tom from Oak Forest
I’m a concerned animal lover. I’m going to call the police and let the officer decide if it’s too warm for a dog to be in the car by itself. I’m going to call the police on any animal I see locked in a car. I suggest that to anyone who does witness this cruelty.
I am a union member and an independent voter. I have not always followed my union’s endorsements. As a 50-year member of a labor union, I don’t remember a time hen our vote was more important. I will vote for the candidate who is a friend of labor, not someone who would destroy the middle class and all I have worked for.
Splash columnist Jenny McCarthy needs to take a splash into Lake Michigan. Jenny, will you please go away? The people in Chicago and the suburbs do not care to read any advise that comes from McCarthy.
