My neighbors moved out of their house due to foreclosure. What is going to happen? I’m nervous about living next to an empty house thinking it could be a haven for kids, gangs or whatever.
We lost a dear friend and pastor this week in the Rev. Robert Dovick. He was a retired pastor of Incarnation Catholic Parish in Palos Heights. He suffered many years from poor health yet he taught us all how to let suffering bring us closer to God. The Lord will welcome him with open arms.

As much as I love the nostalgia of going to the library, I am appalled at the notices that the libraries are asking for a 19 percent increase. They have an operating budget of $1 million. I have to ask if we are keeping up to the technology we have or if we are throwing good money at a bad resource. If you consider the households in a town by a $1 million-per-year operating budget, are we throwing good money after bad?
It is because we have the extra high schools in Lincoln-Way High School District 210 that we have smaller schools. It allows our children to participate in more extracurricular sports and clubs. If you made it all one big high school again, half of those kids would not be able to participate in all of these wonderful programs. The Lincoln-Way high schools are doing a good job.

Maybe the Republican Party will realize that people like John Sununu, Donald Trump and Rush Limbaugh do not help their cause and will cut them loose. It’s time to do the job that they went to Washington, D.C., and the state offices for.
Thank goodness Halloween is over. It’s bad enough that we have to endure the same movies over and over again throughout the whole month on cable television.
Some Chicago Public Schools parents will get a $25 gift card when they pick up report cards. Are you kidding me? That $25 could go toward something else like school debt or teachers’ raises. You’re going to pay parents? It’s unbelievable. Maybe that money could go toward tutoring or books instead of cigarettes or booze.
I have to wonder if everyone who voted for U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush ever actually thinks about looking into his record to see what he has done for you and your family lately. I doubt it. I think Rush does not concern himself with anyone in the suburbs and he has a horrendous voting record. He’s even a former Black Panther.
The Detroit Tigers’ mascot didn’t choke on a fur ball at the World Series. I believe it was a chewed-up and tattered old White Sox it was dying to spit out.
If the issue of abortion is really based around a woman’s right to be able to do whatever she wants with her body, then why aren’t these activists protesting and wanting prostitution legalized? After all, it is her body. She should be able to sell it if she wants. All the have to do is tax it.
I would like to congratulate U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk in his recovery and the outstanding job he is doing to bring himself back from his stroke. This man deserves all the credit in the world. He’s not like somebody else who is hiding in the hospital.
I was recently hospitalized and unable to leave my home. What a treasure it was to vote by mail. It was easy enough for me to get the form, fill it out and mail it back. Thank you for the opportunity to get my vote in.
If I was a college journalism professor I would flunk the mainstream media and give them a grade of F- for negligence regarding the terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya, where four brave Americans were assassinated on Sept. 11. It seems like no one is reporting on this Watergate cover-up issue of enormous importance in our time. Shouldn’t President Obama, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta be held accountable? I guess not. The media has failed miserably in not broadcasting the truth to the American citizens.

Union workers go to trade schools and serve years of apprenticeship to learn their trades well. Handymen do not.
The Democratic sheep in Illinois followed the shepherd, House Speaker Michael Madigan, and elected all the Democrats again. I don’t believe it. People scream and holler about pension reform. Nothing is going to change if you keep putting the same people into office. I didn’t vote for one incumbent. Get new people in there.
More about a few things that really lower my tip at a restaurant: If my mouth is full, please wait to ask. When I order an appetizer do not bring it out followed by the entree a half minute later. Give us time to finish the appetizer. Prices are high and although I encounter very nice servers when we do go out, these things happen more than not. Thanks.
Since we always help out these foreign countries when they have a disaster, I wonder how many countries sent us aid when we had the Hurricane Sandy disaster.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was not the loser in the election. The real losers are the American people and the middle class, those people who are supporting the 50 percent who are on the dole. That percentage does not include Social Security and Medicare. How could anyone lose an election when for four years the media buffers protected every untruth told to the American people?
