Since this 2000 file illustration of a TV remote control was shot, these devices have advanced a great deal, with televisions even being able to be controlled via tablets now. | File illustration

What ever happened to no adult content during daytime or prime time television? It seems like every TV channel just about has it now.
We are grateful this election is over and my pension and health benefits are safe for another four years. And all the women in my life are happy that their lady parts are safe for at least for another four years.
Former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell has been enjoying an extravagant lifestyle for years. She indulged with luxury homes, vehicles and jewels. She has a home on 6.9 acres with an in-ground pool, an 88-acre ranch, horses stabled at a ranch in Wisconsin, millions of dollars in assets and a high school education. Taxpayers paid for her lavish lifestyle. Crundwell and political crumbs like her have caused the weak economy. They should lock her up, throw away the key and then go after the rest of them.
The Federal Reserve Board plans on keeping near-zero percent interest rates until 2015, thereby hurting and decimating millions of people who rely on their savings and interest for a little income. I heard that the low interest rates are supposed to help the housing market. The fact is it’s not going to do any good because property taxes are what is killing the housing markets. It’s not high interest rates. There are houses in Chicago that you cannot give away because the property taxes are so high.
We in Illinois shouldn’t have been concerned about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s tax return. We should have looked into the tax returns of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, Chicago Ald. Edward Burke and former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley instead.
I am certainly glad that Tori Berrios escaped with relatively minor injuries when she drove her car around the lowered gate of a train crossing and was struck by a Metra train. But I do find one of the things she said following the accident to be rather odd: “I don’t think it was luck or chance, but I feel like God was with me.” If God was with her at the time of impact, why wasn’t he there before that so the crash could have been completely avoided?
Jeff from Orland Hills
To PJ from Glenwood: You claim Democrats are looking for a dictator in the United States. So which political party suppressed votes in key states?
Earlier-than-ever Black Friday shopping opportunities continue to prove to retailers that nothing is more important than the things they have successfully made us believe we must have. Our own families have taken the back seat. Those who say they’re glad it’s not like the old days, have more and likely never had to work a holiday. Maybe we should make Thanksgiving Day like Election Day and just pick a day in November to celebrate.
We have U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson and state Rep. Derrick Smith all accused of taking money. Do you think these crooks are going to be cautious with our taxpayer money? Get rid of them. They should all be out of office right now.
Cook County is now taxing people for selling their cars. The tax can be more money than the car is worth. I think it’s ridiculous.
Why doesn’t Oak Lawn have a rebate program for homeowners and taxpayers to get taxes back like Orland Park does? Orland Park residents are estimated to each get $131 back in rebates at the end of the year from the village.
It’s a long-standing Christian tradition to celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas, Dec. 25th. Some folks want change this tradition and call it “the holiday season” instead of Christmas. Somehow, though, they feel it’s OK to get paid for having Christmas Day off from work.
First lady Michelle Obama has spent the past four years teaching children to eat a proper diet. Please spend the next four years encouraging Chicago school dropouts to get a GED diploma and possibly a decent job after that. Classes could be held at Chicago Park District fieldhouses.
To Dawn from Midlothian: You say we’re animals, after all, and nature says homosexuality is not normal. I think in nature more animals exhibit homosexual or bisexual behaviors compared to the few species that exhibit pair-bonding aka monogamy. You and I must have a different definition of “normal.”
Jeff from Mokena
Being of the old-school mind-set of “you get what you pay for” is why my sons did not attend public schools. I think you go to these schools for nothing, and it is nothing you get in return.
Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy should write a book called “Excuses for Any Occasion.”
Mike P. from Chicago
It’s a good thing the SouthtownStar has a good cartoon section because Speak Out is really getting to be depressing.
Lou from Palos Hills
To the person from Lemont who commented about my rant about tipping: This is a prime example of just why we are in such a mess now. This person, most likely a waitress and a graduate of the public school system, did not seem to understand my rant was not about me not liking to tip but about other people trying to infringe on me as to how much I should tip. I always tip even with bad service.
