There are felons running for office? Where is the law to forbid this? If there isn’t one then make one.

Oak Lawn

I’m a grandpa who would like to congratulate the Frankfort Square Wildcats eighth-grade cheerleaders. They have cheered together for five years. They have never lost a competition. They have won five straight state championships in their category. They were able to go down to Daytona Beach, Fla., and compete for nationals. A shout-out should go out to the coaches and everyone who was involved in that. Congratulations, girls.

Tom

I just heard that some of our Illinois politicians said it’s OK for illegal immigrants to get a driver’s license. Now these illegal immigrants are going to tell all of their friends back in Mexico that you can come to Chicago and get a driver’s license, a Link card and a cellular phone. Chicago is doomed.

Tom from Burbank

These signs such as “Proud Union Home” are an eyesore for the rest of the homeowners. They only point out union corruption. It’s nothing more than putting the garbage cans in front of the houses. If that is going to be allowed then maybe we all should be allowed to put signs up like “I’m a Christian,” “I’m a Muslim,” “I’m Pro-Life, Not Pro-Death” and “I’m Antigay.” Maybe we all should put up a sign. Something has to be done about these signs. They are a discredit to this neighborhood.

Palos Hills

I think President Obama has a way of lecturing people, deriding them, speaking down to them and disrespecting them. He has done that to U.S. House Speaker John Boehner right to his face. Obama lectured the Supreme Court in the State of the Union address right in front of the whole United States. He tried to speak down to U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney during the debate. I think Obama is very condescending and disrespectful. How are you supposed to work with people when you treat them like that?

I’m tired of seeing teachers go on strike so they can make more money so we can pay more taxes and make less money.

What difference does it make who wins that congressional seat to replace former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.? It will just be another Democratic Mike Madigan stooge from the Chicago area who leaps whenever the Illinois House speaker says jump.

Bob from Oak Forest

A Speak Out commenter stated that atheists religiously believe in nothing. I would like to point out that atheists do believe in science, math and anything else that can be verified. If it can be verified then I believe it. What I don’t believe is what I have to accept on faith. Two plus two equals four. That is something that can be verified. It doesn’t have to be accepted on faith.

Now the professional football players are being suspended for performance-enhancing drug abuse. If NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants to stop this now and not repeat what Bud Selig did in baseball, Goodell should have zero tolerance and dump these million-dollar drug users. I think Selig was a gutless commissioner who let the fans down. Get with it, Goodell, or you will be dumped too.

Alsip Joe

It’s amazing how many cops are still turning a blind eye to people texting while driving. These cops need to stop writing frivolous tickets for ridiculous things and do their proper job and stop these people. They are causing severe accidents.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is talking about reducing the cost of phone calls for inmates. Are you kidding me? With all of the homeless and hungry people and the loss of mental institutions and hospitals in Cook County, Preckwinkle is worried about phone calls for people in Cook County Jail. This can only happen in Crook County.

Why wasn’t the Tinley Park holiday market held at the new train station? The event was stale and boring. A change of venue would have helped. The special events in Tinley Park have been very disappointing compared to last year and other years. Maybe village officials can tell us why.

Jonathan from Tinley Park

People compare the taxes on businesses in the United States to other countries. Other countries have different tax policies. They may have a lower tax on a business but they also take $10 per gallon of gas in Europe. If you’re going to complain about taxes you should at least do the research and check what the policies are elsewhere if you are going to compare them.

If former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s nephew R.J. Vanecko was so innocent in the death of David Koschman, then why did Vanecko run away that night?

I pay my fair share in taxes. I think people who make more than $250,000 per year should pay their fair share in taxes. End the tax cuts for the rich. Pay your fair share, rich people.

Frank from Palos Hills

One way to tick off your neighbors is to use our lawn as your dog’s urinal and toilet.

Another great idea from the Land of Lincoln is congestion pricing on the Illinois tollways. It will be more expensive to use the express lanes at key times. It’s just a new way to reach into your pockets. I have more respect for armed robbers than I have for officials in our state.
