What’s up with the Oscar snubs? For example, Ben Affleck’s film “Argo” was nominated for best picture, but he wasn’t nominated for best director. What a shame!
I’d like to thank the person who found an envelope at Walt’s and turned it in to the cashier. It was very important to us. It’s great to know there are still good people out there.
I believe our politicians have everything turned around. Instead of worrying about driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants I think they should worry about the killings in the Chicago streets. If you give more people driver’s licenses then maybe there will be more drive-by shootings. The politicians do not care what is going on. They are worried about all the little things.
WGN-AM (720) has reached bottom with the removal of Rick Kogan and Milt Rosenberg. They have two people left before all knowledgeable and interesting personalities have been eliminated.

I think the way that Republicans in Congress have treated President Obama is disrespectful and disgusting. What they have done is to act as if everything that he does is wrong and has to be opposed. Why don’t they get about the business of governing and come to an agreement with the man who was elected president by the people of the United States of America?
Theo Epstein, Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations, must have cornflakes for brains to give $52 million over four years to a guy with a losing record. Pitcher Edwin Jackson has been with seven teams in 10 years. Why did these teams dump him? Nice going, Theo. A seven-time lemon is not worth $52 million.
To the commenter shaming people who haven’t had a flu shot: Getting the flu shot is no guarantee you will not get the flu or you won’t infect another person with the flu. There have been many documented cases where the live active flu virus they inject in your body to prevent you from getting the flu, is not the same type of flu virus that eventually gets people sick. I think that makes the flu shot worthless. When you ask the medical professionals questions about how effective the flu shot will be, they give you no answer or guarantees.
To the restaurant grandparents: I’m not sure you understand the complexities of running and owning a restaurant. Almost everything has doubled in cost. The government sometimes regulates the purveyors restaurants may purchase from and is again trying to raise minimum wage. With having to print calorie and content information on every menu for every item, along with rising health care costs, you are getting a bargain with restaurants asking for an additional 50 cents for extra ranch dipping sauce. For every 50 cents that restaurant is asking for, the government is sucking the restaurant dry for 100 times that amount.

Has the SouthtownStar’s circulation dropped? I disagree with the commenter who stated the reason was the coverage of area high school sports. You say half the newspaper takes up high school sports. I see seven pages of all sports in a recent edition of the paper, which is definitely not enough coverage. One of the reasons I went to the SouthtownStar and dropped the two major Chicago papers was those papers had less coverage of the high school sports. I enjoy the SouthtownStar for all its neighborhood news and sports. I wish it was capable of covering more.
There was never a more useless person who the Democrats put into office than Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. She is a do-nothing, no-good Democrat. Get rid of her now.

Some people think it is ridiculous to have armed officers in schools. Take a look at President Obama. He has armed guards. The president, the governor, the mayor and even celebrities each have bodyguards. These are the same people who speak out against guns and for more gun control. Can you afford a bodyguard? The politicians waste enough of our money. Why can’t they puts systems in place to put police in schools?

God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve nor Anna and Eve, to procreate. Gay people should be satisfied with the civil union laws.

I think our firefighters should be required to pick up our garbage while they are waiting for an infrequent call to a fire. This would keep them physically fit, and they would be dressed and have their boots on for a rapid response when a fire occurs.
Is there anyone who represents white American workers? Someone I know has a good job here at a foreign-owned, once-American company. This company hasn’t hired Americans in a long time. All they hire are foreigners. These are jobs with good pay and benefits. The foreigners harass the Americans and start trouble, making false accusations. Nothing is done since the boss is foreign too. Since the Americans are white, no one cares. It’s a great country we live in. Foreigners have more rights than those who are American-born.
I’m a senior. I just spent four days in the hospital. I just got a recap of my bill. It cost $27,000 for four days. That’s hard to believe. Let me see U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk’s bill for the past year. I’d bet you it cost millions or nothing at all.
