It’s a shame former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. didn’t learn anything from his father, the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s pulpit. Thou shalt not steal is a big one. It just makes me wonder what Jr. saw in his home.

About the comment that the SouthtownStar has a high school rah-rah section: The SouthtownStar is a neighborhood newspaper, highlighting neighborhood events which yes, includes high school sports. If you need more information about horse racing results, odds, deals for overpaid and underproducing athletes and basketball hotheads Carmello Anthony and Kevin Garrett, surf the Internet or purchase one of the other Chicago newspapers. Let students, their friends and relatives enjoy their favorite high school athletes’ accomplishments in print. Obviously you never played or had someone to be proud of.

Yes, the United States is a nation of immigrants — legal immigrants, not criminals who came here by sneaking in. Nobody has anything against immigrants. It’s the illegal criminals that we want out of here. Let them wait their turn and become Americans legally, and I don’t mean some sort or variation of an amnesty.

Regarding definitions: I just looked up the word “hypocrite” in the dictionary. Lo and behold I found a picture of Al Gore, the former vice president who I think made hundreds of millions on the global warming hoax. This is the man who is against big oil and agrees we all must go green with those toxic squiggly light bulbs that I find don’t light. Well, he just sold his TV network, Current TV, to Al Jazeera and likely made millions of dollars. I believe Al Jazeera is funded by foreign oil and anti-American. Go figure!

Bravo for the suggestion that doctors place an outside call to their own practices. These doctors should call and try to make an appointment or get test results. Often these workers who answer the phone are rude or flustered. Either hire more receptionists or train your staff on how to handle patient calls with respect for the caller. They should all take a lesson from the staff at Bremen Animal Hospital. I get better treatment there than from my own doctor’s office.

Sandy from Orland Park

WLS-FM (94.7) is still on the air. They just are not playing as many oldies as they used to. For oldies from the 1960s your best bet is to get an Internet radio where you can choose what you want to listen to.

I thought Illinois knew how to deal with crooks after the situation with former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Get a prosecutor in there to follow the trail of money and bust all of these people who had their hands in the cookie jar. I can see at least 100 politicians who should be bound for a jail cell. I want these crooks in jail. I want these guys in jail for doing more than Blago talked about.

I think the only reason Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his friends want to give driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants is because it is easier to register them to vote. That will be 250,000 more Emanuel votes.

Burbank

If even one person in the office at Newtown, Conn., had a gun, I think the shooting attack would have ended right there and not in the classrooms. At least in Crook County we lock up the mentally ill in the Cook County Jail instead of treating them in a mental health facility. That’s the Illinois way to deal with our disturbed citizens.

I think President Obama has done absolutely nothing to close Guantanamo Bay. He has actually doubled down on President Bush’s policies. Obama has assassinated so many people by using drones and without a trial. The media hammered President Bush for all of these same things yet they have given President Obama a free pass on this. Where is all the outrage against President Obama for Gitmo and the war on terror?

For all the pages you had in a recent Sunday sports section, there wasn’t one item that covered any major sport event. There was no Major League anything, but there was a bunch of college and prep sports coverage. That also happens sometimes during the week. If you don’t have any professional sports then what is the sense of having a sports section? You might as well publish the newspaper under the name Chicago Prep and College.

John from Bridgeport

How can the United States spend millions training the police and security in Afghanistan when we don’t have enough money to pay for cops here in Chicago or throughout the United States? We ought to build up the police departments in America and cut down on the crime and forget about these other countries.

The dopes who said Sammy Sosa’s, Mark McGwire’s and Barry Bond’s exceptional performances on the field were due to strength training, got their answer to just what these players were up to with the rejections of them from the Baseball Hall of Fame. For the apologists who say they should get in because everyone was cheating, consider the legitimate players who didn’t get the chance to play in the majors, or didn’t receive the monster contracts these frauds received. The “get it any way you can” mentality is pervasive and often revered. It’s a sad statement on how we’ve regressed.

The Republican talking heads keep saying we have a high unemployment rate in the United States. They should stop blocking job-creation methods being put forward by President Obama. Those unemployed would go back to work and be paying taxes instead of drawing money away from the economy.
