I hope South Suburban Humane Society’s extreme makeover of three rooms in its Chicago Heights facility leads to comfier quarters for dogs and cats while they await adoption.
Congratulations to the Lincoln-Way West High School Varsity Competitive Dance Team for winning second place in the IHSA competitive dance sectional. They are finals-bound. Good luck, girls.
It’s not the police superintendent nor the mayor who are making Chicago a dump. It’s the people. It’s the gangbangers and the bad people who are ruining it. Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy and Mayor Rahm Emanuel need everybody’s help.
I find it very disheartening for our country and the politicians to allow people to come into our America and fight what our flag represents. All of our Army, Navy and Air Force soldiers have given either their lives or limbs to represent this beautiful flag and what it stands for. If you don’t like our country and our religious beliefs, stay out and keep out of our country. God bless America and what we believe and stand for.

I love technology, and I’m really excited because I’m buying a new car, which has a smartphone-based online infotainment service integrated into it. There is a beautiful touch screen built right into the opened-up dash. I’ll have access to social media. I’ll also be able to reply to text messages, check weather conditions and check stock prices. I’ll even be able to do Google searches. I can’t wait. This will really enhance my driving experience. A big thanks to the carmakers for coming up with these new revelations.
I think they should fine these freight trains that park in the middle of an intersection.
Seniors have worked hard all our lives. We contributed positively to society and paid our taxes. We have earned a rest. I think the new formula they have proposed for the cost-of-living raise is outrageously unfair. It only proves once again how government officials abuse their powers and we the people have no power to stop them. Leave the system alone and look elsewhere to fix your mistakes.
There was a recent incident during a basketball game between Simeon Career Academy and Morgan Park High School. There was a previous incident between people from these same two schools in September during a football game when a large fight broke out. I think it’s clear that these two schools need to be investigated. In the least, these schools should be banned from playing each other. In the most, these schools should lose their sports programs for five years. It’s clear that the officials cannot control their people.
President Obama believes in social justice. The biggest social injustice is the people not being able to get a job. He is not helping to provide an environment for business to create jobs.
It was irresponsible of the SouthtownStar to put a large coyote picture on the front page with the even larger headline of “How far would you go to save your pet?” People may see only that and not read the article with the alarmist title of “Coyote ugly: Sacrificing dignity for pet love.” Donna Vickroy’s column about mistaking a golden retriever for a coyote was not cute. She is just causing more rumors about coyotes. And what’s with the mention of the giant snapping turtle? Are they dangerous? Was it a turtle or just a ladybug?

They should do a spin-off show based off Ice-T’s character on the TV show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” He always gives a stellar performance.

Individuals need to stop mixing up religion and law. It doesn’t matter what the Bible says is appropriate. We are talking about equality among people and freedom to marry who you love. Also, we need to stop comparing gay marriage to over-the-top scenarios like marrying animals or underage girls.
Some say money is the root of all evil. That is incorrect. The love of money is the root of all evil.

Home-improvement expert Lou Manfredini’s Daily Splash column on Jan. 18 was one of the best columns I have read so far. Good work, Lou!
Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki should retain his office. He has been a great mayor for Tinley Park. The town has been kept solvent. Zabrocki looks out for everyone.
JD from Tinley Park
Many thanks to the sweet person who paid for our dinner. You are a blessing.

The thing I like about Speak Out is that it’s proof that you can stand out on a corner handing out $10 bills and somebody would take issue with it.
Most people don’t understand that for every dollar the U.S. government spends it has to borrow 40 cents to do it. If you ran your household that way, how long do you think you could continue to do that? That is why the debt ceiling and spending cuts are needed. I do not know why Democrats oppose spending cuts.
I would like to say thank you to the security officers at Oak Forest Health Center. My car broke down in the parking lot late in the afternoon on a very cold day. Not only were they helpful but they were courteous, kind and even saw that I got home safely. Many thanks to these two gentlemen.
