They want to put a 25-cent tax on gym shoes. It’s time for them to realize people don’t have money to pay these taxes. They are hurting people and driving businesses out of Chicago. It is ridiculous.
If you do the crime then you must do the time. There should be no excuses about being sick or anything else. We had a former governor who lost his wife. He has to do his time. Man up and do what you’re supposed to do. Stop covering things up.
Does anyone find it a little disconcerting that the business section in the Chicago Sun-Times comes after the obituaries?
A lot of people make it seem like just because you can’t speak or read English that you somehow can’t learn to drive or that you will be dangerous on the road. What does a red octagon sign mean other than stop? Traffic signs are standardized to be recognized by shape. Did you know the top light on a traffic signal is always stop and the bottom light is always go? That’s so people with color blindness can still use the roads. These people are not denied a driver’s license. Just because people cannot understand English doesn’t make them stupid.
All we have in government is Ringling Bros. against Barnum & Bailey. Let’s get together and get the circus working.
A Speak Out commenter stated that he didn’t want to read about these professional athletes and their attitudes. Their attitudes start in high school. All you do is read about yourself in the newspaper. I think that is why 90 percent of high school athletes have attitude problems. They think that they are better than the rest of the student population. I’d like to see more professional sports in an encompassing sports section in the SouthtownStar.
Isn’t it strange how Social Security retirements have a maximum but pension retirements do not?
To the person who commented on WGN-TV (Channel 9) meteorologist Tom Skilling: It’s very simple. Turn the channel. There are plenty of weather forecasts. If someone bothers or upsets you why would you continue to listen to them and complain?
What a sorry state America is in that we have companies like Arrangement Finders. It seems like college girl prostitutes promoting adultery. Yes, what every parent wants is their daughter to sell herself to strange men. How sad! And yes, I think the billboard in Chicago’s River North neighborhood is offensive.
Would you expect to make more than the owner of a company you worked for? Of course not. That would be ridiculous. The firemen don’t realize that they work for the taxpayers. They keep asking for more yet I think they make more than taxpayers can pay. That’s when we need to cut funding.
I think former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson and her husband, former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., should be behind bars for more than five years. Why should they get only five years for what they have done? I think they should go to jail for at least 20 years. Let them pay back all of the money. Are they special people? I think this should be taken care of in the same way everybody else is taken care of.
A lot of ideas are being put forth about what to do about the gang problem. While the ideas may sound good they will not get at the root cause. We need to empower our police officers again. The politicians need to step back and start supporting them. We need to bring back the tactical units and the stop-and-frisk policy. When you pinch a gang member you should check his family for welfare benefits and cut them off. A lot of times the kids provide an income for families that don’t want to work.
It seems like everyone is asking about what happened in Benghazi, Libya. Who is wrong? Who is right? I think they are asking the questions to the wrong people. They are asking former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and a general who wasn’t there. They are asking questions of everybody who wasn’t even there. For goodness sake, ask someone who was there and was an eyewitness. Get them on the stand and leave the outsiders outside.

Our Judeo-Christian principles on which America was founded are being undermined and destroyed every day in our modern and immoral culture.

It seems like every time the policemen’s, firemen’s or city workers’ contracts come up the city of Chicago cries, “Poor.” This is ridiculous. They find money for everything else. How can they not afford to pay these people their proper salary? Now they want to mess with policemen’s, firemen’s and city workers’ pensions and health care. Don’t they realize that these are something they can’t fool with? And don’t blame the taxpayers. All they want to do is nickel and dime us. Every time you turn around they are raising stuff.
Orland Park is giving incentives to a car dealership to upgrade their facility so they can sell the smart car. I know Tinley Park has given incentives to businesses to fix the place up. Why don’t the homeowners ever get some kind of incentives to fix their place up? We all have expenses too. Why don’t you spread it around a little bit?
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union speech in English and in Spanish. Is this the Republicans way to try to win the Hispanic voters?
