Please quit beating a dead horse about the water in Crestwood. What do you think every fast-food place on Cicero Avenue uses? Water from Vermont? Enough already!
Think about it. When the $10 minimum wage is defeated the stock will go up. The chief executive officer will get a bonus. Then the CEO will be awarded more pay because the company made record profits. This equals raised prices and higher costs for necessities. It lowers the minimum wage earners’ buying power. Buying less results in less taxes, which lower the Illinois tax base and hurt business owners. I only see one winner here: the already wealthy. That’s who wins.
I saw a bumper sticker that stated, “Big Brother Sucks,” and right next to it he had an “Obama for president” sticker. If he only knew that President Obama is Big Brother with his policies of government takeover.
I would like to respond to a person’s comments about Homer Glen. You take issue with the businesses in Homer Glen and the parking provided. Please move! Dominick’s came here when nothing was here. Go to Crook County and pay a lot more in taxes. By the way, you get nothing for the extra tax but graft and liars. Please move out of Homer Glen. Leave it to people who want open spaces and a safe environment.
Some people complain about Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose receiving a huge contract while sitting at home injured. Do you really think a professional basketball organization, or any sports organization for that matter, wouldn’t have an injury clause built into a contract? I’ll bet he’s not making anywhere near the $95 million he would be making if he was playing. He’s probably receiving some sort of stipend. Granted, this stipend is probably way more than I’ll ever see as a yearly salary. But he’s working hard to rehab and return as soon as he can. He’s not just sitting around.
Regarding David Kristofek, the ex-Orland Hills part-time cop: This man’s own lawyer calls him “a really naive guy” and Kristofek is suing for being fired from police work. That and the attorney fees being part of the suit makes it sound like something different than what this guy is claiming. I am curious as to how much taxpayer money is wasted on civil lawsuits.
The sky was the limit for former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, but they chose greed instead. It just makes me sick. Instead of thinking about all of the good they could have done for the 2nd Congressional District, the main focus was on themselves. I don’t feel sorry nor am I praying for either one of them. Let the chips fall where they may.
WGN-TV (Channel 9) meteorologist Tom Skilling has been referred to as Skillet Head in my family for over 10 years now.
Rick from Evergreen Park
Our new U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, is going to give $190 million to Egypt to help pay its bills. I wonder who is helping the United States pay its bills. Is anyone coming to our assistance?
Ken from Oak Forest
Gov. Pat Quinn and other Illinois politicians should be committed to a mental hospital for passing this silly, stupid illegal immigrant driver’s license law. Shame on you! A lot of these illegal immigrants can’t read or write American English but they will take free American money.
RC from Oak Lawn
My newspaper carrier is Alfonzo. My paper is always on my porch. Like a mailman, Alfonzo delivers in all kinds of weather for much less pay. I tip him to let him know I appreciate his good work.
Charlotte from Chicago
To all of the union haters commenting in Speak Out: We are a small percentage of the entire U.S. work force. Put the blame where the blame belongs. That is corporate greed. Check out all of the congressmen who voted to give tax breaks to companies that send their jobs overseas.
Ray from Orland Park
Some of the female reporters on WLS-TV (Channel 7) and WMAQ-TV (Channel 5) are looking kind of anorexic. Maybe they should lay off the plastic surgery. They are trying to make these women look like they are 30 years old when they are actually 50 or 60 years old.
Jerry from Chicago Heights
To the grandma of the white male: I agree and thank you for stating the not so obvious. I am a white male and see the discrimination in the workplace. Many times I have had to go back and fix a person’s work. Equality is a powerful word but only seems to work one way. Isn’t about time for all of us to be equal and to be judged by our merits? I grew up lower middle class and worked hard for what I have. Try it sometime. It’s pretty rewarding.
Bill from Tinley Park
It’s just not fair. A real musician in the name of Alvin Lee, guitarist extraordinaire, dies and there is hardly, if any, mention of it. But an alcoholic, drug-induced loser like Whitney Houston is all over the place. Go figure!
I’m a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church. Why is Burnett Hall still named after a pedophile? The Diocese of Joliet has added the name of the Rev. James Burnett to their list of priests that have faced credible or substantiated charges of sexual abuse. So why has St. Mary’s, of Mokena, not changed the name of their church hall? Why does the church continue to honor him?
