I was sad to hear about Chicago Sun-Times movie critic Roger Ebert’s latest battle with cancer, but I admire his self-proclaimed leave of presence and his resolve to be as busy as ever.
At my church, Our Lady of the Woods in Orland Park, we have coat drives and shoe drives. If you ask for help, St. Vincent de Paul is at every Catholic church. We have a giving tree for Christmas for poor children and Easter baskets. Catholic Charities helps all the time. We have sharing Sundays where we put money in an envelope for poor people. At least once a month we fill bags with groceries. There is no truth to the statement that the Catholic Church doesn’t help the poor. If they ask for help then they get help.
It’s not even summer yet and these young thugs are running wild. They don’t have anything else to do but harass people and set up meeting places online. What are they smoking or drinking for such irrational behavior?
I don’t get Chicago Bull Joakim Noah not playing on March 27 against the Miami Heat, but there he was watching his Florida Gators at the NCAA Tournament. I thought he was hurt. If I was the Bulls I would get rid of Derrick Rose and Noah. They are professional athletes getting the huge contracts and seemingly not having the desire to play through an injury.
I’ve noticed a lot of words have different meanings now with all of these computers. When I was young, a mouse had four legs and a tail and Spam was luncheon meat. Fishing, rather than phishing, we did with a pole. We surfed on a surfboard. Twitter was something birds did. Text was schoolbooks. And spiders spun a web. The meaning of words have changed so much. I guess I’m from the old days when we were better off. These kids don’t know how to spell or give correct change and they’re too busy texting.

I think Illinois has been dead for more than 50 years now. All they do is talk dead noise.
Politicians and lawyers have something in common. They’re both liars, even lying to each other.
Whenever President Obama is criticized for his policies some people say it is because we hate him. Many of us don’t hate him. He seems like a good person. I think he is just an inept public servant and needs to be called out when his policies don’t make sense or don’t work.
Why do we have littering laws yet it seems like nothing is enforced? I drive down the Dan Ryan Expressway and the Bishop Ford Freeway and it’s covered in garbage on both sides of the street. It seems like the residents there are not held liable for the filth they throw all over the roads there. At least make the inmates go out there and clean up the garbage instead of letting them sit in their cells and do nothing all day. I’m paying for the city to be clean. This is pretty filthy. You should be disappointed in yourself.
If Nazi Adolf Hitler was still alive, he would be green with envy watching what the Democratic Party is pulling all over the United States.
One of the reasons I love Tinley Park so much is there is a rule that the police come to your house and check up on you to make sure you are all right when you’re on oxygen. Where else can you go and have that happen? I love this village. Thank you for this service.
More about not blaming Google for your junk email: I use Google all the time and have used Gmail for over a year. The few pieces of questionable mail I’ve received all ended up in the spam folder, where you should leave them to be removed by the email provider. By the way, you can set up your computer to delete browsing information and cookies when you exit a website. It’s the same thing with your Google account.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Illinois State Trooper James Sauter, who was killed on the Tri-State Tollway. For the past year I’ve been calling to complain to *999 and the district that patrols to tell them about these trucks that run three- or four-wide. Nothing seems to be done about it. This will probably create a situation where the troopers will take notice and start taking our streets back.

Whenever they advertise houses for sale they should have to put the cost of the property taxes in the ad. Property taxes are one of the largest costs of owning a house. It is so deceiving when they put the price of the house and they don’t even discuss the property taxes. It’s like a dirty little secret that goes on in Illinois. Your property taxes often cost more than the mortgage. They should include the property taxes in the advertisement so people know what they are really getting into.
Is anybody else getting tired of paying for Medicaid; housing; the Women, Infants, and Children program; and all of these other free things for people who don’t want to go out and work? Some people seem to make more money being on welfare than working. There is a problem with this. It really needs to be looked into. Quit just saying we are going to do something about it and do something about it. Each case needs to be looked into. You have created a lifestyle for people instead of a helping hand. You have enabled generations to do nothing.
Why is it that a handful of people are always trying to change everything for the rest of us whether we want it or not?
