A Speak Out commenter asked if there is a more useless sport than water polo. As comedian George Carlin said, “I hesitate to even mention it because it’s extremely cruel to horses.”

I’d like to give a special thank-you to the gentleman who opened the door with a smile at James Saunoris & Sons’ florist shop on 111th Street 10 minutes after closing. My 13-year-old granddaughter and her cousin bought way too many flowers for her mother’s grave. He remembered the teens and gave them a refund. Thank you for being so kind and understanding to me and the kids.

Business owners in the United States should be restricted from employing immigrants who are in this country illegally until every American who is out of work has been hired. First the Americans, then the immigrants. Americans are losing homes at a record pace. We are having a hard time feeding our families and paying our mortgages. We need the jobs for real Americans and not criminals.

To all advertisers who spam email and cellular phones: Do you really think I would buy your products after you pretended you were one of my friends online or on my cell phone list? I will never buy anything you advertise and I will urge all my friends to do the same.

By abolishing the death penalty you declare open season on the people who are in charge of Illinois’ security and well-being. Our police department must really appreciate that the thugs and the gangs can shoot and kill our police officers and make plea bargains while all the while they get free room and board over a period of years. Nice going, governors!

Why are Rolling Stones concert tickets so expensive? I have to take a mortgage out just to get seats. I know they are old, but they shouldn’t be charging such exorbitant prices.

Who do you contact when you know of a neighbor who leaves an unattended 8-year-old home alone while they go out to do whatever? This poor child is left home to fend for itself. I think that’s child endangerment.

Orland Hills

It seems like the politicians can’t agree on gay marriages. As least there are more important things that they can agree on like giving millions of dollars to find out the sex of a snail, perhaps building a bridge so turtles can cross the road or giving billions to a country that has sworn to kill us. It’s unbelievable.

Bob from Oak Forest

Chicago has a marathon coming up. Now you have Dumb and Dumber telling the people that Chicago hasn’t been threatened. Here is a news flash, Dumb and Dumber. From what I heard, New York and Boston were not threatened. These were sneak attacks. I wonder if you two are going to get your heads together and make sure nothing happens in Chicago.

A Speak Out commenter said none of our taxes have increased under President Obama. What is this person talking about? Gasoline, food, medical devices and even the air we breathe has taxes being added. Taxes are being added to every aspect of our lives. Wait and see what is going to happen to your health insurance and property taxes. Please wake up.

Orland Park

In a local newspaper there is a small section that offered Spanish classes for seniors. How about English classes for Spanish seniors? I think that is more relevant than me trying to speak Spanish as a senior.

I don’t know what is worse: people who are texting and not paying attention when they are driving or people with dogs on their laps. Both are very dangerous. They should not be allowed or tolerated by any town or driver. They should be ticketed and fined.

I’m from the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau and wanted to comment on parking in downtown Chicago. Parking there is already very expensive. Now another new tax will certainly discourage tourists and conference planners from going there. The Chicago Southland can stand back and remind those planners that it’s not a problem for us. We welcome out-of-town visitors and embrace the opportunity to host conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars and trade shows where parking is free at all of our hotels and meeting facilities. Free parking is an added benefit when you bring your next meeting to the Chicago Southland.

Just like Jay-Z and Beyonce I, too, went to Cuba. My trip was in 1971. I was approved by the U.S. government. I was in the U.S. Navy at the time. I went to Guantanamo Bay where there was nothing but training and heat. Once in a while we went to the enlisted-men’s club. Why didn’t Jay-Z and Beyonce entertain the troops when they were over there? That would have been more beneficial than what they did.

I think the Link card is given to people who are hungry. It is not necessarily given to people who never worked. I worked my whole life. My son was also a taxpayer who worked. Should we be called lazy or undeserving just because we use the Link card?

I get about eight pieces of mail per day asking for my opinion on certain things. But at the end they want me to give them $25 for my answer. Why? If they want my opinion on something then I should be able to give it without having to give money for the answers. It’s nothing but a racket.

I’m willing to donate to singer Madonna’s pension fund so she will stop singing and going on tour.
