Who’s excited about Dolton native Jane Lynch hosting the NBC summer program “Hollywood Game Night”? I think it’s cool how actor Sean Hayes’ game nights turned into a game show.

I’d like to thank Union Street Gallery & Studios in Chicago Heights for their donation in memory of Robert Moore, which was sent to the International Children’s Fund. I’d also like to thank all of the people who sent cards, letters and prayers regarding his passing.

I nearly had a head-on crash because of a woman with a little dog behind the steering wheel. She thought it was funny.

When you look at items now, where are they from? China. We are sending billions of American dollars to China. Why can’t America make its own products and save billions?

We were shocked when we received our Illinois license plate sticker renewal for $101, up from 2012’s $99. Yes, some will say it’s only $2 more, but the increase is noted on the renewal as going to state parks. The state has a big pension mess yet politicians seem to find a way to tax and fee everything even when it’s not related.

It will not take a multimillion-dollar government study to show that when the morning-after pill is approved for over-the-counter sales there will be a significant rise in sexually transmitted diseases.

Tinley Park

A Chicago White Sox fan commented that half the Chicago Cubs fans don’t give a darn about the game, and win or lose they’ll be back at the bar.I suspect that there are as many knowledgeable, caring fans of one team as the other. And both are likely at the bar win or lose. Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood and Wrigley Field are popular attractions that help attendance. Wouldn’t Sox fans love to have a draw like that to their ballpark, U.S. Cellular Field?

To all of you praising Texas Gov. Rick Perry about all the jobs he’s creating, move there if you think the grass is greener. But do research before you move. I read that Texas was among the leaders in American states when it comes to minimum wage jobs, which typically have no health benefits or pensions. In addition, look at the recent explosion at the fertilizer plant. I think less regulation means an unsafe work environment.

A Thornton commenter said the speed limit should be lowered to 55 mph and enforced. It already is 55 mph all around the Chicago-area expressways. Interstate traffic in the outlying area is already moving 70 mph to 85 mph. Bumping the speed limit up to 70 mph from 65 mph won’t make that much difference.

Milex in Oak Forest is the best auto repair shop around. I have been going there for over 30 years. Terry and Tom Roche are great. Anyone looking for a place to get their cars repaired should go there. There are no hassles. You just get the car fixed right and can be on your way.

Dennis from Oak Forest

Hugs to those of you thinking of your loved ones who have passed as this Mother’s Day approaches.

Fast-food workers protested for higher wages because they are only paid minimum wage. Some are asking for $15 per hour. No one can live on minimum wage. You have to depend on family or the government for help. I think they will never receive a $15-per-hour wage because if they did, the cost of a burger would be $10.

It has been noted that everywhere in the newspapers, television and radio they are talking about the problems with mental health. It seems that you can hear about it from everybody around the United States but Illinois. I think you can’t hear it from Gov. Pat Quinn because he is the one who closed down mental health facilities.

To the S.S. Badger bashers: Do you realize how many hundreds of cars this one remaining steamship transports across Lake Michigan each day? That should save thousands of accumulated driving miles of vehicle emissions. I think there are more fish urine and feces in the lake than coal ash. There is this thing called water treatment. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

He is one of our own. SouthtownStar columnist Phil Kadner was recently named 2013 Illinois Journalist of the Year by the journalism faculty of Northern Illinois University. Phil is in good company with previous winners like Mike Royko and Bill Kurtis. We SouthtownStar readers are very fortunate to have such excellence in editorial writing in the south suburbs. May you have many more years of doing what you love to do, Mr. Kadner. As the old saying goes: If you love what you do, you’ll never have to work another day in your life.

While on the Link card or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program you can get seeds or plants for use in home gardens to produce food. I think this would be a healthy idea and maybe stop some of the griping. Let’s go out and start planting.

Many thanks to the police, FBI, medical people and volunteers who worked diligently to aid all of the people in the Boston marathon bombing. It made me think of 9/11 all over again. It seems like so many hateful people come to this country to murder the American people. This country helps all foreign nations when needed and these people show their thanks by killing the innocent. This country needs to be more diligent when allowing foreigners in.
