We need to protect our elderly by making them aware of intruders. Many criminals say they are working on the house or fixing the cable and then they steal the elderly’s things.

Kudos to the San Antonio Spurs for asking Sebastien De La Cruz, an 11-year-old Mexican American, to sing the national anthem not once but twice. Shame on ignorant white Americans for their ignorance after he initially sang the national anthem in a mariachi outfit!

It continues to amaze me how Gov. Pat Quinn is still pushing for a south suburban airport even though there has been no airline willing to commit to fly to this south suburban airport. Are we building another boondoggle like with the Gary/Chicago International Airport, where it seems that there is hardly any airline that is flying out of there more than four times per week? The south suburban airport is an incredible waste of taxpayers’ money and ridiculous. When will these politicians wake up to know what the will of the people is? It’s no to a new airport.

What’s with all the strapless dresses the eighth-grade girls are wearing for graduation? Some of them are looking way too sexy for their age. I don’t know what their parents are thinking. I’m thinking there will be a lot of teen pregnancies if you let a 13- or 14-year-old look and dress like an 18-year-old.

I agree with the Speak Out comment about the no-goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in game two of the Stanley Cup finals. But if you have been watching the games, they have been outplayed all but two or three periods so far, and their power play looks awful. Enough said! Let’s hope they turn it around.

With crime rates at a high level, women need to know and be concerned with the men they date when it comes to themselves and their children. Bullets do not have a name.

I just read your student loan article. Did any of these kids consider a community college to get their basic studies out of the way? Did any of them read the legal, binding contract for the loan? They knew what they were getting into when they signed on the dotted line,so I don’t see why we should feel sorry for them now.

I’m losing faith in our government. They tell us the unemployment rate is going down, but I think the real reason it’s going down is because people have quit looking for work. They tell us gasoline prices are going down. I buy gas all the time and I know gas prices are not coming down, not in the Chicago area. Now the Internal Revenue Service is investigating conservatives, but our officials don’t seem to think this is a big deal.

I can’t believe former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. is probably only going to get four years for the crimes he has committed. I hope former Gov. Rod Blagojevich can get out of his sentence sooner on appeal. This is ridiculous. Put the thief in jail where he belongs.

Jim from Tinley Park

Regarding who created Satan: Satan’s original name was Lucifer, which means bearer of light. He was an archangel who became envious of God’s power and was cast out of heaven because of his jealousy and was sentenced to reign over hell. So Satan was ultimately created by God.

I’m a 12-year resident of Oak Forest and the use of a medical care clinic is very helpful to the south suburbs. I can understand why it’s cutting costs by eliminating the third shift of medical care personnel at the Oak Forest Health Center. One can only assume the volume of patients that arrive in the middle of the night. If there’s no doctors, there’s no use to keep putting out money. It’s just common sense to make this cut.

Willie from Oak Forest

I think the point of affirmative action laws is to level the playing field. News flash: The playing field isn’t level. If you think it is, then remove your kid from your well-funded suburban school and send him or her to an inner-city school. When you are willing to do that, then I am willing to say we should get rid of affirmative action.

I had to laugh at the Speak Out comment about watching the Jodi Arias trial this winter and spring. The commenter called the jury brain-dead. What kind of person sits and watches a trial about a sensational murder for months? I had never even heard of this case until I saw a brief mention of the verdict on the national news one night. It’s no wonder television is filled with mostly garbage if this is what people consider entertainment.

Chicago

Republican tactics to discredit and smear President Obama and other Democrats should come as no surprise. There is nothing in the trumped-up so-called scandals” about the Internal Revenue Service, Benghazi and the Associated Press. It’s a Republican tradition to lie, cheat and steal to win elections. It goes back to the dirty-tricks tactics of President Nixon on through Karl Rove who worked with President George W. Bush’s administration and continues now.

I truly feel that any movie theater that displays a 3-D movie should have to accommodate a visually challenged person (people that wear corrective lenses) with 3-D glasses that match that person’s prescription, or distribute over-the-frame fittings that actually are comfortable and viable. We pay good, hard-earned money to see a movie just as well.
