After hearing about Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis being in Joliet and shooting scenes for the movie “Jupiter Ascending” in Minooka, I hope they film in other areas including the Southland.
Now that U.S. Cellular has been sold to Sprint Nextel Corp. in the Chicago market, can we go back to calling the Chicago White Sox ballpark Comiskey Park or Sox Park?

Normally I agree with 99 percent of Phil Kadner’s columns, but I disagree with July 28’s column on docking lawmakers’ pay. It’s a drastic measure and will affect lawmakers who wanted pension reform and other pertinent issues. Let lawmakers work in corporate America. If problems weren’t solved in a short period with meetings, etc., they’d be fired or demoted to a lesser position. All lawmakers have to realize they are responsible for all Illinois residents and compromise. A decision must be made. Lawmakers don’t want to make waves before the 2014 election. How many are they hurting? They don’t care.

Don’t just complain. It is frustrating to read, both in the newspaper and online, about concerns in Tinley Park with the overall complaint being, “We need to do something about it.” Call the village or go to a meeting. They frequently say at community events and group presentations that they want to hear from the residents. Voice your concerns to someone who can do something about it.
Let’s stop pretending the Illinois Lottery is funding education and treat it like the scam it seems to be. Require that the lottery pay out at least 95 percent of its take from consumers.
Russia is providing a great example for the religious extremists in America. Passing antigay laws, banning pro-gay “propaganda,” baiting gay men and publicly humiliating them and imprisoning them. The list goes on. Don’t get any bright ideas, America. Some of you have already voiced your opinion about throwing all of us in an electric fence and killing us off. Regardless of belief, no human being deserves this kind of barbaric violence. Silence gives your consent.
In response to the Rev. Reginald Williams Jr., the pastor of First Baptist Church of University Park, and his message on the church’s electronic sign after the Trayvon Martin verdict, you should look at all the shootings going on every day in the city of Chicago. No, it’s not OK to kill anyone.
I’m amazed at many parents’ laziness and lack of involvement. Your kids are almost always plugged in to a computer, phone, iPod or something else. You have no idea what your kids think or who they know. You work so much they raise themselves. You don’t block porn websites or channels, believing they listen to you. Your kids are the first ones to go to these sites. Your job and house, and what others think, are your main concern. When your kids have nothing to do with you when you’re older, don’t be surprised. You never formed a close bond.
About juries: Wes from Orland Park is what is wrong with our legal system. Wes basically said that circumstantial evidence and your life experience should rule on if someone is guilty or not. This is not our legal system; this is the legal system of a Third World country. In our legal system there must be evidence, not circumstantial or otherwise, or we all are in danger of incarceration at someone’s whim.

Different people have different disabilities. My mother cannot seem to get out of cars with ease due to rods in her legs.
The scandals are real. It is the teleprompter that is the true phony.
I can’t believe we are still considering a third airport in Peotone. The state of Illinois is broke and some of the major airlines stated they have no interest in flying into Peotone. The airline industry has been cutting back. I don’t understand this foolhardy endeavor. You are destroying rich farmland, and for what purpose?
Article X of the Illinois Constitution’s Section 1: Goal — Free Schools says, “The state shall provide for an efficient system of high-quality public educational institutions and services. Education in public schools through the secondary level shall be free.” We know this is a lie. Elected representatives are lying in black in white in our Constitution. Look at your property taxes. Much of the school taxes go to salaries and pensions.
To the Oak Lawn commenter who said I should’ve parked in the parking garage by the courthouse on 26th Street and California Avenue for jury duty: There were no parking spaces available in the parking garage except for wheelchair parking. I drove through each floor numerous times. There were no parking spaces by the meters on the street either. People were parking in the tow zone spaces because there was no place to park. I was not going to get a ticket trying to perform my civic duty. Also, my old car is just fine.

So the teacher commenter believes teachers, firemen and policemen give us the society that foots their bills for our freedom? No, freedom was given to each and every one of us by God. It is up to each individual to educate their children and protect ourselves and our property. These government workers are not our keepers. Since the government and every government job is a creation of the people, they are inferior positions, yet this teacher acts like we are slaves to them. This teacher better get the facts before commenting.
