The fast-food workers want a raise in pay. If you don’t like the place, then go and work somewhere else if you want more money.
In one of the early “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” episodes, the lead forensic investigator, Gil Grissom, comments that the evidence is just the evidence. He explains that evidence recovered at crime scenes is not influenced by emotion or relationships. This is just a TV show, but I agree with him. Jury verdicts should be made based on the evidence presented, not life experience.
For those who don’t read the facts: Not that it admonishes them from wrongdoing, but the money that former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, misused was from their campaign fund — not taxpayer money, not out of your pockets nor the state of Illinois’ pockets. So those of you with an axe to grind or pure hate for the Jackson family and who are asking for 25-year sentences, please get the facts straight. Unless you contributed to the campaign, which I assume this crowd did not, what is the problem?

I saw a bumper sticker that stated, “Too informed to vote Republican.” I vote for whoever will be the best. My counter to that bumper sticker would be, “I use my brain and think for myself rather than vote for any one party.” Maybe people who blindly vote Democrat should open up their mind and look at some of these people who you’re electing. Illinois has been a Democratic state for a while. What a disaster of a state it is! I think the people who are so proud to vote blindly Democratic need to start using their brains.
Please don’t let anything stop you from going to Mass on Sundays. I’ve been ushering since 1963. I’ve seen every kind of costume that people can wear on a Sunday. I just look away. God will sort it out himself. Don’t ever give up going to your church because of others’ behavior.

A Speak Out commenter stated violence begets violence and no one is teaching teenaged boys in the inner city to respect authority. They are being taught to respect authority in most cases. But some people, like George Zimmerman, are pretending to be authorities.
Don’t you think that all bicycles should have a bright rear reflector? What about motorized chairs? All chairs should have a tall orange flag. It would be safer for everyone.

There is abuse everywhere. The poor and middle class are doing their fair share. Your upper class is also abusing, but we call it white-collar crime. When doctors overcharge Medicare and Medicaid, when home care providers overcharge per visit and when Wall Street had to receive a bailout, then the pot can’t call the kettle black.

Regarding jury duty: I agree with the woman from Burbank about the parking situation near the 26th Street and California Avenue courthouse. I had a similar experience a few months ago. Trying to find a parking space there is just awful, and the neighborhoods around there are terrible. Plus, with all the shootings happening in Chicago, you are risking your life trying to get there. I have an efficient car and it still cost me more in gasoline than they pay you for jury duty. I, too, would rather go to the Bridgeview courthouse.
Back in the day when everything was blooming, jobs were plentiful and unemployment was low. That was when politicians, pension writers and union representatives all had a field day writing agreements. The eye was kept off the ball. Now this is a headache for the taxpayers.
A little girl was shot at 71st and Rockwell streets in Chicago. I’d like to know where all of these people who were protesting the George Zimmerman trial verdict are now.
To all drivers who are the first one at a stoplight: Please stop driving over the white lines. First, you can get a ticket for that. It will not get you to your destination any faster. And you’re blocking the view from the side cars. You could get clipped from the cars that are going to turn in front of you because you’re sticking your car out where it doesn’t belong. Please stay behind the white line.
I think the divorce rate would drastically decrease if men viewed women without focusing on looks and their body. If you wouldn’t be friends with her if she was a man, then what makes you think you’re going to get along with her as a female? I think we need to look more closely at people. Looks and body will fade and then you’ll be sitting there with somebody with no substance.

I am shocked at the Park Forest police officers who could not subdue a 95-year-old man and had to kill him with a Taser and bean-bag rounds. These officers should be arrested. This is awful.
I agreed with Gov. Pat Quinn’s withholding of the legislators’ pay until I read Phil Kadner’s column about the withheld pay. This is political blackmail by the governor and was the wrong thing to do.
I get a kick out of the saying, “Watch out for motorcycles.” How can you avoid them when there are two idiots on Kawasaki Ninjas, dressed in all black and weaving in and out of traffic at 80 mph? There are a lot of respected motorcycle drivers out there who obey the law. People should obey the law for these guys, but those two nuts on the Ninjas should be locked up.
