"Beware of the Sugar-Sweet Lair" by Marty Rose and Don Zak fits well with the Fairy Tale Festival theme of the 10th annual Benches on the Avenue public art project in Tinley Park. | Sun-Times Media

While driving down Oak Park Avenue, I noticed the park benches. The artistic creativity is a wonderful way to beautify your community. Kudos to Tinley Park. Other communities should take note.
It makes no difference what political party you belong to. What matters is doing the right thing. A shout-out goes to U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk who is seeking money to help Chicago with its gang problem. Now is the time for all others to join forces with him.

I don’t care what name or what dress Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider puts on the pig of a project called the South Suburban Airport. It will always stink to high heaven. It’s a project driven by greed. This project isn’t market-driven, filling a transportation void or economically viable. Unfortunately for Eastern Will County, it may be the first of its kind, but for the state of Illinois it won’t be the first airport project that has failed and failed miserably. Just ask the citizens of St. Clair County in Mascoutah, Ill., about the MidAmerica project, which also was touted.

The taxpayers of Illinois would be better off if all of the elected politicians embraced the true meaning of integrity, which is always telling the truth and always doing the right thing especially when no one is watching.
Regarding minimum wage: Are all you protestors working at fast-food places going without? Do you have a cellular phone, a car and cable, and do you smoke? Good-paying jobs are hard to find, but maybe some of you need to change your lifestyle a little. I bet some of you get government assistance already so why not use it to get educated to make yourself more desirable in the work force?
There were parents walking their children to the first day of school and the television cameras were out. Where will the cameras be in a few weeks? Thinking positively, I’m hoping for the best.
Regarding double standards: A commenter claimed sex is more important to some women than kids. Apparently it is more important to men. Where are the fathers to help support their children? Why are so many pedophiles preying on children? I think strange men would not be there if some of these fathers would take part in moms’ and kids’ lives.
Just because the government will consider 30 hours a full-time job for the purpose of requiring a business to offer benefits beyond wages, doesn’t automatically mean that your employer will cut your hours. In fact, it now makes more sense to have people work longer hours than have several only working part time to avoid offering benefits. Your employer has always been free to cut your hours if they weren’t needed. The only thing that would change this is having a union in your workplace and fighting for full employment and benefits, but I guess it’s just easier to whine.
Wow! Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich gets 14 years in prison but former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. gets two-and-a-half months. I told you we live in a double standard world.
There is a simple answer to the Syrian conflict. It is the same answer you should give if somebody offered you some drugs. Just say no, President Obama. I’m getting very tired of helping my neighbors bury their children when they are only 23 years old. Let them settle their conflict themselves and we can sit in the background like Russia and China and only veto certain things in the United Nations.

On the news they were talking about how a family is going to release balloons to remember a loved one’s life. Please don’t do this. Birds and other animals have eaten balloons and died agonizing deaths. Killing other creatures is no way to honor someone’s life.

It’s absurd that people want to question sexuality. Especially on the topic of homosexuality, these right-wing Bible-thumpers don’t question the origin of heterosexuality. They just have this unwavering faith in Holy Scripture. There is nothing in the requirements of being a U.S. citizen that I have to be Christian or follow Christian law. On that note, where does it say in U.S. or Illinois law that you have the right to live in peace but everyone else doesn’t?
I wanted to thank a man and his family who possessed the honesty and integrity to recently contact me in order to return an iPod to its rightful owner. We hear too many stories in the news of people stealing wallets, iPhones and valuables which deprives us of hearing about the goodness and charity of humanity. Thanks again for being a shining example of righteousness and doing the right thing.

To the Chicago White Sox fan who asked why Chicago Cubs fans go to Cub games: Could it possibly be because they are baseball fans who don’t rely on the success of a sports team to give them the strength to get out of bed in the morning? Could it be because they enjoy their lives and realize it’s baseball. Why do you care? Funny stuff!
To the person who says George W. Bush was one of our better presidents: I have one question for you. Have you been living under a rock for the past 13 years?
What is wrong with people who spray graffiti? I can appreciate a work of art and often admire community murals, but I don’t understand random tagging on people’s garages, vehicles, bridges, etc. Why not take your talent and use it for more than just causing trouble?
