I live in the subdivision just north of Heritage Estates in Orland Park and know that folks now drive through it to go from 135th to 143rd streets or vice versa to avoid the traffic on LaGrange Road.
An exit/entrance for the proposed Mariano’s supermarket certainly would bring more traffic to the neighborhoods, no matter what the Mariano’s officials say.
Some of the comments from Orland Park officials on this controversy over access roads border on the ridiculous.
The excuse that access roads are necessary for emergency vehicles is bogus because it never has been a problem in the past. In fact, the increase in traffic through the neighborhoods may lead to delayed access for the police and fire departments.
If Orland Park wants to make Mariano’s and the planned 231-unit apartment complex more accessible, a sidewalk or two would do just fine.
