It’s about time. Two thumbs-up for the BET “Soul Train Awards.” It was entertaining, and no rap stars were running around showing their underwear.

Why are some commenters maligning Chicago Bull Derrick Rose? He’s a young local guy who worked hard to maximize his God-given talents only to see his dream possibly slip away. What a perfect example of what a loving and strict family can do to raise an honorable and respectful man in a terrible neighborhood. Derrick is criticized for being human and shown no compassion as he struggles with injuries. A basketball team’s success shouldn’t overshadow an individual’s value. His critics should tell us what magnificent successes they’ve had to make them feel justified in kicking the kid when he’s down.
I’ve always wondered about the people with foggy windows in their cars. How can you see if I can barely see you? Turn on your defrosters, people. You know, the buttons with the wavy lines. Opening your window a bit, too, can help. I think this is a safety issue that the police should stop and check.
It looks like President Obama has compromised the safety of this whole world for political gain with this possible deal with Iran. I think the politicians in the United States need to look out for the people instead of an election result or for political gain.
Thank you to neighbors who shovel snow and expect nothing in return. It’s always a pleasant surprise when the weather is bad.
I think Americans expect perfection from everyone they come in contact with. When they do not receive what they expect from individuals or corporations, they get mad. They call, make Speak Out comments or sue someone. In some instances it is their own lack of knowledge. It is human nature to blame others for one’s lack of judgment.
I agree with a Speak Out commenter who said Chicago and Cook County rule Illinois. So let’s take it a step farther. We should make Chicago and Cook County with their public unions and all of their allies the 51st state. Let them be responsible for their own actions. Illinois would be out of its fiscal mess in no time.
To the parents of youngsters damaging Christmas displays in Eagle Ridge, Phase 1: Please don’t let them run wild. You apparently haven’t taught your children to respect other people’s property. It’s been happening between 10 and 11 p.m. My husband and neighbors work hard decorating. These punks broke our light-up reindeer’s foot and placed the deer in a compromising position. They pulled up our lighted candy cane stakes and threw them on the ground. They knocked over several of the neighbor’s snowmen. These are probably the same kids that stole my lawn ornaments. Please teach your kids right from wrong.

I think the Tinley Park roundabout is a done deal whether we want it or not, and the buzz is that most think it is yet another ridiculous and unnecessary expenditure. According to Fall-Winter 2013 issue of The Exchange that Tinley Park residents received in the mail from the village, the roundabout is coming. Once again, so much for elected officials representing their people. The term “home rule” is more like “they rule” in Tinley Park.
Here’s a message to BBK: We always need emergency and medical staff. Retail can wait, and we can always shop another day. We won’t die if we don’t buy that big screen television or pair of shoes on a holiday.
Why not make public the names of the hierarchy who transferred the pedophile priests to different parishes, enabling them to molest more children instead of removing them from the priesthood? They should be held responsible.
To the commenter who said Democrats are scurrying: It must be nice to live like an ostrich with your head in a hole. Where were you when the Republicans shut down the United States because they could not stop Obamacare? Who do you think supports the Republicans? I think it’s the medical profession and the big insurance companies. I think state Sen. Ted Cruz and his tea party hate this country and will do whatever they can to ruin it. I love America and all it stands for. I could never vote for a party that hates what I love.
Isn’t it funny how seniors berate the youth for all of our violence in games and television? Remind me once again what generations lived through World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War? The world is pretty violent, huh? I think my generation can do without all the finger wagging and tsk-tsking.
Those complaining about the pension fix aren’t losing their state pensions. Requirements and cost-of-living formulas have changed slightly. No private pension formula sets a fixed amount. A pension automatically increases yearly. COLAs in these pensions are usually figured, if they exist, like the increases given to Social Security recipients and are based on the inflation rate. Also, these increases are never compounded, figured on the amount one currently receives, but are calculated on one’s base pension. Would these complainers rather have Illinois and their systems go broke and go into receivership where they would receive only pennies on the dollar?
Dec. 7, 1941, was, as President Roosevelt called it: “a date which will live in infamy.” That was the date of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
