Coffee with a Cop day went over really well. I’d like to thank George’s Diner in Alsip and the Alsip Police Department for taking the time to have coffee with me.

After 29 years as artistic director and leader of the Luvabulls, Cathy Core was honored at halftime of a Chicago Bulls game. Cathy not only led the Luvabulls but raised millions for charity during her tenure. Cathy is one terrific lady. Congratulations.

If MSNBC political commenter Martin Bashir had to resign for making an insulting remark about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, then I want to know when somebody is going to resign from Fox News for some of the lies and insults about President Obama.
Here’s my message on behalf of all the commuters in Oak Forest: We can say how much we appreciate having to stand out in the cold because our train station still isn’t ready. It seems like every other suburb gets a nice new warm station. We still have to stand in the cold because ours isn’t finished.
A lot of people are talking badly about Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose because he hasn’t played very much recently due to injury. People have to realize that injuries are part of sports. I bet you they are not criticizing Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Wisconsin. Athletes get injured. Just deal with it. I don’t think Rose wanted to get injured again. He is a great player but he can’t win a championship when he is recovering from an injury.
I think the Cook County Board should change its name to Crook County Board. We have outgoing commissioner William Beavers in trouble due to corruption. Now we have two ex-cons, Al Sanchez and Isaac Carothers, running for county office.
MTV used to be something everyone watched. I haven’t watched “my MTV” in a long time. I think it’s turned into the gangsta life, glorifying drugs and guns and keeping women under control for sexual pleasure only to move on like “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.” They want to tape “16 and Pregnant” in Tinley Park? Did you get run out of New York and New Jersey? I think if the Federal Communications Commission wasn’t making so much money keeping the government running by selling spectrum space, MTV would have been off the air, fined heavily and put in jail.
Ron from Tinley Park
A commenter said generations who fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam were more violent than dopes raised on violent video games. While I don’t believe we belonged in Vietnam or Korea, WWII was necessary. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler wanted to rule the world. When Pearl Harbor was bombed, Japan forced us into war. While Pearl Harbor day was recently forgotten because South Africa President Nelson Mandela died, maybe the commenter should learn some history. You didn’t see the violence after these wars like now. Those soldiers lived the horrors of war, not the imagined horror of a game.
I think Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown should get a bonus now for all the good he has done with the team and all the games he has won. Just give him another envelope because he really deserves it. Good luck to the Bears.
Congratulations to coach Bill Smiles and the students at Reavis High School in Burbank for winning the Mathletes contest. They have won the contest for the past nine out of 10 years. Cheers to Reavis High School!
The United States is spending more on education yet our records are nowhere near the top nor the middle compared to other countries. So what are we really getting for our money? Some children are graduating with no skills, working in low-wage jobs and subsidizing themselves with government assistance. I think we can do better than this.
Can anyone explain to the worker bees of this city, as in Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications, why when management screws up, the 24/7 worker gets the punishment? It’s not their fault the overtime is so high. Changing their shifts is not going to save anything. It will make it worse. Remember that when you’re home with your families during the holidays and we’re there 24/7, away from ours while protecting yours.
I think the Affordable Care Act would be good if it was affordable and they were honest about it, but now we have to look at the effects of it and it’s not so good.
To the person who made the comment about foggy windows: Try turning on the defroster with a broken heater core, you know, that thing that only costs $1,000 to fix. You know what they say when you assume something.
The U.S. congressional approval rating average for 2013 was recently 14 percent. My idea to jump-start and get the rating moving in the direction it should be is to get rid of U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin. That ought to shave them all up.
