One of my favorite things about this time of year is sending and receiving Christmas cards. It’s fun to see people’s creativity and also to hear from the special people in my life.
Thank you to the staff and students of Ridge Central School in Chicago Ridge. The winter concert was awesome. I was so impressed by the talent, organization and overall program. What a nice way to help celebrate the holidays!
I think the ire directed at Chicago Bull Derrick Rose and Chicago Bear Jay Cutler is a bit misdirected. It is silly to think that these guys are dogging it. Some fans are very fickle. I understand the frustration of the fans when overpaid players don’t play. What disgusts me is that ownership continues to pay outrageous salaries.

The Tinley Park Convention Center welcomes an annual pole dancing convention, but Mayor Ed Zabrocki says no to “16 and Pregnant,” an MTV teen mother program taping in the village. It sounds like mixed messages to me.
To those suggesting that President Obama is a Communist: If that were true, I think your comments wouldn’t be in print. Why? I think you’d be rounded up by death squads, you know, like real Communist leaders like Nikita Khrushchev, Joseph Stalin, etc., have done. Just because it isn’t going your way, don’t resort to name-calling . If you do, I think you should know of what you speak.
I don’t like former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and know he’s guilty as charged, but 14 years? Come on! I think all he did was be a jerk and bully. It was never proven he took money. Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. took money. Former Cook County Commissioner William Beavers did tax fraud. Both got what I think is a slap-on-the-wrist sentence. They and former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson should have gotten 20 years each at least. Where is the justice?
I’m a 22-year-old. Having watched the “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” recently, I was disgusted. Everything about the TV special promotes the wrong message. How many girls are actually 6 feet tall and a size 0? Not many. Let’s get some average-size girls in shape and with curves promoting the right message and not being half naked. Girls need role models teaching them to be strong, not skinny with sex appeal.

Nice job, Democrats! I see you working so hard on the pension problem, getting jobs and explaining why millions now live in poverty. But you have gay marriages. I guess that was so important.

During a wonderful Thanksgiving Day Mass celebrating St. Julie Billiart Roman Catholic Parish’s 40th anniversary, we had the honor of Cardinal Francis George celebrating this Mass. Thanks to the terrific staff especially Deanne for directing or guiding our angelic choir, Melanie for composing or writing a special song, Pat and Maryann for presenting to the cardinal a huge construction paper rosary made by our Confraternity of Christian Doctrine students, Ruth and Cindy for directing the church’s decoration, the many volunteers for serving or feeding over 100 families a delicious Thanksgiving feast, and Mariann for making sure it all came together.

Recently former Chicago Bear Mike Ditka had his jersey number retired. I think there’s another Bear who deserves this honor: Mike Singletary. He is a legendary linebacker. It pains me to see another player wear it. Maybe when he retires from coaching the Bears will honor him. I’d like that, and I believe many fans old enough to remember that legendary Bears team would as well.
Regarding video games and violence: Most psychologists actually agree that playing video games is often cathartic and actually reduces violence as opposed to increasing violence. Some actually say that the world would be much more peaceful if everybody played “Call of Duty: Black Ops” on their Xbox 360. I’m 17 and have been playing violent video games for many years and have no violent tendencies. Sometimes it’s just a matter of nature over nurture.

Why does the commenter from Monee care so much about parking in the city of Chicago? I do not think there is a street parking problem in Monee, other than too many farm tractors double-parked in front of the convenience store.
What happened to the non-smoking ban in Merrionette Park? I saw smoking being allowed in one of the village’s shops all day long.
