SPEAK OUT COMMENT: "To the Chicago Bulls: It’s been 15 to 16 years since a championship. Bad signings, draft picks, free agents, luck, bad coaches, etc. Will they ever get back to an NBA final? It looks a long way off." | File photo

Regarding who to believe: When answering accusations, any politician who responds with “I don’t or can’t recall” or “not to my knowledge” should not be believed. As an example, where did you propose to your wife? “I can’t recall.”

Bob from Oak Forest

WeatherTech FloorLiners had a great commercial on during the Super Bowl. They pushed American-made products made by American workers. What a concept — supporting workers over profits! This is the problem in the United States. I think our trade policies stink and they hurt American workers. We must stop giving corporations tax breaks when they ship jobs overseas. If you want to see more jobs, stop voting for these jerks who say we have to give more tax breaks to wealthy companies. Laws must start to favor workers or we are in big trouble.

Here we go again. The new pension reform isn’t effective until July, so that means all those state pensioners got their 3 percent on Jan 1: while all the Social Security recipients got 1 1/2 percent while they both contributed from each paycheck while working.

Paul from Lockport

Columnist Phil Kadner is right about gerrymandering. It is undemocratic and should be abolished. The proposed Illinois Independent Redistricting Amendment, though imperfect, would implement a fairer way to affix legislative boundaries. The main problem with the amendment is that it would do nothing to alter the gerrymandering done in other states. Isn’t this a national problem that should be addressed on the federal level?

Orland Park

My response to the comment regarding Grand Old Party candidates: Are you kidding me? For your information, the Illinois Senate is so top-heavy with Democrats that nothing can get done without the approval of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and his cohorts. State Sen. Bill Brady had the previous gubernatorial election won until the Chicago results came in so until we can come up with a bipartisan Illinois Senate, nothing will be done to get Illinois out of the bottom. Example: Wisconsin and Indiana.

MLB from Homer Glen

Too many people snow blow what’s on their driveways back into the street. What is wrong with you? We spend thousands of dollars in snowplows, manpower, fuel and repairs to equipment to keep our streets clean and safe to drive on only to have a bunch of selfish, small-brained people just blow it back in the streets. What’s wrong with you? Blow it to the side like the smart people. I think you should not be allowed to buy a snow blower if you don’t know how to use it properly.

About the Feb. 3 article on gun-free zones: Now that we have gun-free zone signs for those who carry concealed weapons, we should create another gun-free method for the criminals and illegal gun carriers. This group tends to ignore our good-intentioned-but-useless signs.

Evert K. from Oak Lawn

More about dealing with lake-effect snow: When heavy snows go for hours and even days along with winds, it is impossible for any government body to keep up. Add to that fact that blowing snow can create whiteout conditions that quickly cover the roads again, and the only game that can be played is catch-up.

Chicago

Regarding Super Bowl commercials: Are you kidding me state of Illinois? You spent money on a Super Bowl commercial for our state. That is the most pathetic thing I have seen yet. That was awful. Way to put money to good use!

I read that Richard Vanecko’s lawyers said he “always” wanted to apologize to the mother of the victim of his vicious attack that resulted in the death of David Koschman. This coward Vanecko was satisfied to keep his criminal act secret till Chicago Sun-Times reporters pursued the inconsistencies in how the case was handled by the police and the court. Needless to say, Vanecko’s equally cowardly cohorts on the night of the incident didn’t have the wherewithal to confess the truth of Vanecko’s vicious act. This sorry scenario stinks all the way to the very top of Chicago city government.

Tom from Evergreen Park

Reading the foreign news reports, I think some countries do better with a dictatorship. Their citizens cannot make any kind of decisions and cannot agree who or how they should be governed. Look at Egypt. What a mess!

Regarding the commenter who said that President Obama is a dictator for using the executive order: Maybe he should look up how many times Ronald Reagan went against Congress. His executive orders were in excess of 300. Did that make him a dictator?

Tom from Tinley Park

Why is it such an issue to build an airport on rich farmland in Peotone? Airlines don’t want it, farmers don’t want it and residents don’t want it. Who wants it other than the politicians including former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. who is in jail? Let the people decide.

Crete

About high school jobs: A part-time custodial helper is bragging cause he got a high school worker fired. Here’s a message to students: Just keep furthering your education. You’ll soar farther than somebody who prides themselves on taking a job from a high schooler.
