For years, Homer Glen has set guidelines for residents to follow when burning yard waste, such as notifying neighbors that you intend to burn leaves, burning only material that is dry, not burning grass clippings and not burning on holidays.
These guidelines have been pretty much ignored. So now we have to do the right thing and ban leaf burning altogether.
I live on a large wooded lot and have found with the help of our blue containers, some mulching and a little more effort I think I can eliminate burning altogether.
It is time we are more considerate of our neighbors, the people traveling through our community and our neighboring towns, none of which allow leaf burning.
Time to shift blame
Since joining a trade union in 1980, I have been told that any vote for a Republican will mean that we will all “be working for $10 an hour.”
Since 2008, Democrats have controlled both the Senate and the presidency. For much of that time, the only job I can find is part time, working for “$10 an hour.”
I am starting to have a hard time “blaming it on Bush.”
